Ralph J. Rizzo, Jr. is a United States Marine Corps brigadier general who has served as the commander of Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune (MCIEAST-MCB) since May 24th, 2024.[1][2] Rizzo, previously served as the Deputy Commander of the same installation, and has also served as the Commanding Officer of Combat Logistics Battalion-6 during Operation Enduring Freedom.[3]
Early life
[edit]Rizzo was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts to Ralph J. and Elena M. Rizzo.[3][4] In 1989, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice from Western New England College.[4] Rizzo worked in law enforcement prior to his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps.
Military Career
[edit]In 1990, Ralph J. Rizzo, Jr. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps,and graduated from MCRD Parris Island that same year.[3] After attending the School of Infantry, Rizzo attained the Military Occupational Specialist of 0341, a Mortarman.[3][4] In 1993, Rizzo was promoted to Sergeant, and in June, 1994 he reenlisted in the Marine Corps.[4] In August of that same year, Rizzo was accepted for the Enlisted Commissioning Program, and subsequently attended OCS.[3] In 1998, after graduating from OCS and receiving his commission, Rizzo was promoted to Captain and reported to Logistics Officer School, after which he received the MOS of 0402, Logistics Officer.
Rizzo served as the Camp Johnson/MCCSSS (Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools) Logistics Officer from March 1999 to March 2002.[4][3]
In March 2002, Ralph J. Rizzo, assumed duty as the Company Commander of the 2nd Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group.[3] In that role, Rizzo deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2004. In October 2004, Ralph Rizzo Jr. was promoted to the rank of Major.[4]
In June 2006, Rizzo was selected to command Recruiting Station Detroit, MI.[3][4]
In August 2009, Rizzo attended the U.S. Naval War College, in Newport. There, he graduated in the top 10% of his class, receiving a Master's degree in National Strategic Studies, and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in October of that same year.[4] Rizzo took command of Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.[3][4]
In July 2013, Rizzo was selected to the Marine Corps War College.
In 2017, Ralph J. Rizzo was promoted to Colonel, and in August 2018, he assumed his duties as the Deputy Commander of MCIEAST.[4][1][3] On May 24th, 2024, Rizzo assumed the duties of Commander, MCIEAST-MCB Camp Lejeune.[1][3] On January 13th, 2025 following a Senate confirmation hearing, Rizzo was promoted to Brigadier General. making him the tenth Commanding General of MCIEAST.[5][3][2]
