IAMAzonia is an international initiative focused on the conservation and sustainable development of tropical rainforests, with particular attention to the Amazon. Launched in 2024, the project proposes a new model of environmental protection that combines scientific research, technological innovation, and the active involvement of Indigenous and local communities.
IAMAzonia is built on a systemic and collaborative framework that seeks to align ecological preservation with social and economic development. The initiative promotes alliances across continents and sectors—uniting governments, civil society, and private actors—to protect forest ecosystems and support sustainable livelihoods.
A key moment for the project was the international summit held in Rome on April 22, 2025, during Earth Day. The event, titled IAMAzonia Rome, brought together scientists, policymakers, community leaders, and environmental advocates from various parts of the world. The summit served not only as a platform for dialogue but also as a public presentation of IAMAzonia’s integrated model of action. The approach introduced in Rome was described in the press as an innovative attempt to rethink conservation beyond traditional boundaries, combining fieldwork, technological monitoring, participatory governance, and cultural preservation.[1][2]
Among the activities promoted by IAMAzonia are environmental education programs, the use of satellite and artificial intelligence tools to monitor deforestation, support for regenerative agriculture, and the defense of Indigenous rights. Several articles in international media have highlighted the initiative's originality, noting its capacity to combine urgent ecological goals with long-term, inclusive development strategies.[3][4][5]
The founder of the initiative is Gaetano Buglisi, an entrepreneur and sustainability advocate with experience in large-scale environmental and technological projects. Under his guidance, IAMAzonia has positioned itself as an experimental platform for what some observers have called “a new generation of conservation”—one that treats forests not just as natural reserves to be protected, but as living territories where ecology, culture, and innovation can coexist.
