Your recent edits[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 15:09, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse talkback: you've got messages![edit]

Hello, JennyOz. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!

Signature[edit]

Hi JennyOz. Wikipedia's signature guidelines require that your signature contain a link to your user page or to this talkpage - please could you amend your preferences to enable such a link? (If you replace the signature text with [[User:JennyOz|<span style="color:black;">JennyOz</span>]] and tick the box marked "Treat the above as Wikimarkup" then it will appear exactly the same, but will contain the necessary link). Twinkle[edit]

Hi, JennyOz. You might be interested in enabling Twinkle so you can easily rollback an instance of vandalism yourself. You can do so in your Preferences under 'Gadgets'. Happy editing– Gilliam (talk) 13:06, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bullock[edit]

Hi Jenny. I've taken Bullock out again - he's resigning, not retiring (his seat is not up for election this cycle anyway, unless there's a double dissolution). Once the Bullock -> Dodson changeover is effected (as far as I know Bullock hasn't submitted his resignation yet), which should be before the election, there'll just be a little swap down in the Senate tables where the continuing senators are listed. :) Frickeg (talk) 11:41, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know, trust Bullock to mess things up! On the links - they are being used as our references at the moment. Once formal election guides (like the ABC ones) come out, they can probably be moved down to external links. Frickeg (talk) 08:14, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't remember the specifics on this, so I looked it up for Jenny McAllister and it seems to be that the parliamentary vote counts as the "election", so Dodson's term has now begun. Frickeg (talk) 01:32, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 in Australia[edit]

Thanks for your kind words! In general, I usually only add items with an article link, whether it is to an article about the event, or to people or organisations involved. But it's not a strict rule, anything with a lot of coverage should be fine, and may prompt creation of an article. With anniversaries of events, I would probably not include them unless the anniversary itself had an article (such as Australian Bicentenary), just because it is fairly subjective about which anniversaries to include and of course the original event should be in the year article when it happened anyway so it's kind of repeating the information. --Canley (talk) 05:01, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the 'birthday' greetings Jenny! Just reading the message on your userpage, I hope you're feeling more and more comfortable with your contributions here - you sound like the sort of person that Wikipedia needs more of. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 11:23, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

A belated thanks for the barnstar! This is some of my absolute favourite kind of work to do on Wikipedia, but it's still nice to be appreciated! Frickeg (talk) 05:53, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Old edits[edit]

Try using the "undo" button first, but it will most likely fail if the edits are old and there have been subsequent edits to that section. If it doesn't work, just edit it back to the original state. --Canley (talk) 08:48, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Orange Sky Laundry - editing user space draft[edit]

As a general rule of thumb I don't edit other people's user-space drafts without invitation - I'll wait until it gets moved to article space, as I'm sure User:JennyOz/sandbox/Draft1 will. However if you want me to start on some of the basics (eg WP:SURNAME or WP:NEUTRAL, per my comments on User talk:JennyOz/sandbox/Draft1) while it's still in your user-space, let me know. Mitch Ames (talk) 14:02, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jenny! Sorry to be out of the loop on this (tied up with some other stuff in real life), but great work! I really think you can move this article into main space (if you need help to do this let me know). Once that happens, you can expect other people will start to modify it but that's OK. They would not do it if they didn't think the article useful and collectively people know about the various policies (I don't think any one human could possibly know them all - I am sure I don't). Kerry (talk) 23:41, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Mitch and Kerry thanks both for your messages (and sorry for delay in replying). Mitch, I really appreciate your advice and you are very welcome to make any changes. Thanks though for asking. I will also reply to your specific help back over at the draft talk page. Kerry, thanks for your comments. Funny (ha ha) thing is though..., because it was my first article, I did it via the Articles for Creation process. So now it's waiting with the other 700:) Oh well, luckily I'm very patient. And you're right about no-one being able to know every policy and lots kindly jumped in to share their advice when I asked for suggestions. I look forward to anyone improving the article. Thanks again. JennyOz (talk) 23:49, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realise it was AfC, but I can help with that! Kerry (talk) 00:09, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Kerry, Wow! I'm gobsmacked! Thank you! I didn't realise you could do that. I'll do the changes to the red links today, once I absorb what just happened. Thanks a million. JennyOz (talk) 00:32, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Orange Sky Laundry[edit]

On 18 September 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Orange Sky Laundry, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in their second year of providing a free mobile laundry service for the homeless, the co-founders of Orange Sky Laundry were jointly awarded Young Australian of the Year? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Orange Sky Laundry. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Orange Sky Laundry), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Coords[edit]

Hi, Jenny! I saw your comment to Scott Davis and just thought I'd give you the short intro to coords.

If you are looking at an article which is using the infobox Australian place (as Cowra and most Australian places do), then you can added the coords either as Degrees Minutes Seconds like this

| latd = 33 | latm = 50 | lats = 6 | longd = 148 | longm = 41 | longs = 33

Or if you have decimal degrees

| latd =33.835 | longd = 148.6925

There are plenty of websites that will convert between DMS and decimal degrees if you want to do that, but the infobox supports either format.

In the Australian place infobox, it is ASSUMED you are talking about a latitude that is South of the Equator and East of Greenwich (because all Australia is in the SE of the world), so there is no need for negatives. In other parts of Wikipedia and on Commons, you would put -33 or -33.835 to signify south of the equator.

If you want to know what are the coords of an Australian placename, then this is your best place to go : Gazetteer of Australia.

There's more to coords than the above, so let me know if your needs extend beyond the infobox Australian places and I will try to explain. Kerry (talk) 21:00, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ah thanks @Kerry Raymond: - when I'd had a quick look and compared the coords on maps with those on Cowra, it was the minus sign that confused me so you have just cleared that up for me. Certainly hadn't occurred to me that the infobox had an inbuilt assumption. It takes me so long to look up and fully comprehend each new procedure so your help is very welcome. Thank you sincerely for taking the time to message me with the intro. JennyOz (talk) 22:23, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Please feel free to ask me for help whenever you need it; I don't pretend to know everything (Wikipedia is a vast and sprawling beast). Kerry (talk) 00:27, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FWT review etc[edit]

Hi Jenny, thanks for your great review and support of the FWT list. I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing Australian Cricket Hall of Fame which is also at FLC right now? It's looking a little lonely having received not one glance of attention since I nominated it a few weeks back...! The Rambling Man (talk) 07:50, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Rambling Man Crikey, so many heros! Will have a look over. JennyOz (talk) 15:13, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Advanced warning, on the heels of the FWT promotion, I will soon be looking at listing Trans-Tasman Trophy at FLC, so any review/tweaks you can make on that would be much appreciated. The Rambling Man (talk) 09:05, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Rambling Man, Thanks for the warning:) Will have look at T-TT when finished with ACHoF (but can't commit to any time frame). Congrats on FWT promotion! JennyOz (talk) 08:05, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, there's no deadline, things can hang around FLC for three months sometimes, I tend to try to "canvass" reviewers who I know are keen-eyed, interested in the subject matter and put in great reviews, and their time is precious, so I appreciate any help you can give whenever you can. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 08:10, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Rambling Man, Just to let you know that I will add my couple of points to the T-T Trophy tomorrow. Haven't forgotten:) JennyOz (talk) 18:44, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Cool Jenny, thanks! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:14, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Get Krack!n'[edit]

Hi J Bar, thanks for creating an article for the Kates' new show. I'm not sure though that there is meant to be an apostrophe at end of its name? JennyOz (talk) 04:15, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll fix that up. They must have used one in an early article. J Bar (talk) 05:24, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, J Bar - I thought that might be the case. Thanks JennyOz (talk) 05:38, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

G'day, I wondered if you would mind taking a look at this article, the latest in my work on the frontier wars in SA? I'd like to get a few opinions before nominating it for GA review. Cheers,

Hi Peacemaker67, sure thing! Actually, I read the Waterloo one earlier and just finished reading Dernancourt (noticed the coincidence of name Congreve!). Will get back to you soon. Regards, JennyOz (talk) 09:51, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a copy-editor?[edit]

Hello, again, JennyOz – I hadn't run across your user name before, so out of curiosity looked at your user page. I also don't like getting in to arguments, so avoid them whenever possible. It looks like you have an attention to detail, so you might like to participate at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors. You could help cut down on our backlog of articles needing copy-editing. Some of the articles are in pretty good shape, and only need polishing. Others are in bad shape, or written by a non-native speaker of English, and require a lot of work. Normally, it is not contentious editing, and there's no rush; you don't have to finish an article all on one day. If you're curious, you can look at articles that have been copy-edited already and see in the revision history what the copy-editor did. Look in the archives. I'm sure each copy-editor has his or her own style of copy-editing and what he/she considers important enough to change. If you're really interested in beginning, you might like to look at the tools I've placed at the top of my talk page. Feel free to copy (in edit mode) and paste to your page any that seem useful. (Be sure to click "Cancel" to get out of edit mode.) If you're interested in Australian topics, you might look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia. For fun, you might look at User:Carptrash#I just resurrected, and User:EEng and User talk:EEng.  – Corinne (talk) 16:29, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jenny, I have the above list at FLC, and I always appreciate your insightful comments, was wondering if you'd have a chance to cast you eyes over it? No worries if not, as you'd expect from me, it's practically perfect........ ! Hope you're well, The Rambling Man (talk) 21:58, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi The Rambling Man, will happily look at this tomorrow. JennyOz (talk) 12:46, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, take your time, any help gratefully appreciated, as always. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:31, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image of statuette[edit]

Following your advice, we now have a fair use image of the statuette at the (still awful but not quite so awful) Laureus World Sports Awards article. Work there continues....... I'm aiming for WP:FTC before Xmas. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:36, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks! Looks good, it's a very handsome piece of silverware. Let me know when you are nearing end of fixing Awards article. I won't put it on my watchlist just yet (fear of clogging up). As for Featured topics, I only very recently realised there was such a thing when editing this. The Laureus set should fly through. Regards, JennyOz (talk) 04:58, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jenny, a brief departure from the lists I so enjoy making, I've asked Lugnuts if he'd like to help get Ellyse Perry up to featured article status, and then I suddenly thought of you, and wondered if you'd like to join it too? The article is in good shape already but could use a copyedit and source review before we nominate it. What do you reckon? The Rambling Man (talk) 09:35, 13 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

G'day The Rambling Man, funny you should ask. I spent the weekend swapping between Ian's women's fifer list and, when it was sending me cross-eyed, Ellyse's article. (She is such a magic person. Her interview discussing how she accidentally celebrated her double century on field a tad early was simply delightful.) I only did gnomey edits and only got down to the beginning of her football section. Yep I'm in. There is a massive amount of prose from earlier in her cricket days. Let me know the plan. PS As above, alert me when any more of the Laureus set are ready for FLC listing. JennyOz (talk) 10:19, 13 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Great, once I get clear of my sandboxing for the Segrave Trophy, I'll take a closer look at Perry and see what's happening. With regard to the Laureus lists, well I have six more up my sleeve just waiting for the FLC backlog to clear, plus the main article is now re-worked completely at at GAN waiting for a kind editor to pluck it from obscurity and review it. The lists are: Breakthrough, Sportsman, Sport for Good, Comeback, Team and Spirit of Sport. I'd be happy to take any comments on their respective talkpages should you feel so generously inclined! The Rambling Man (talk) 10:30, 13 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jenny, thanks for all your ongoing reviews and support. Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability has been sitting without attention for a while now, I wondered if you'd "do your thing" on it if you have the time and inclination? Thanks again, The Rambling Man (talk) 13:20, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi The Rambling Man, Ha! I had already started looking at it! Am quite keen to help get the whole set finished as they roll through. (Segrave looks interesting too.) Regards, JennyOz (talk) 13:48, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

USMCWR[edit]

@JennyOz: Thanks for fixing my typo> Pendright (talk) 06:36, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JennyOz: I’d like to nominate the USMCWR article for an ACR! So, would I be testing your patience if I asked you for a read through beforehand? If I am, no problem, I’ll understand. I hope all is well down under. Regards! Pendright (talk) 05:33, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pendright, Nice to hear from you again. I thought you might be heading to ACR, have been watching your changes. I will be very happy to have another read through. (All's okay downunder though a bit chilly.) Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 05:57, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: Great, thank you! Pendright (talk) 20:00, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: As of this hour, I’m unable to find any italics on either the slogan ( Recruiting) or the esprit de corps (Camp Lejeune). What am I missing? Pendright (talk) 06:52, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pendright, well that's weird. When I view this sentence "Although joint training with the Navy proved satisfactory, it did not engender the Marine esprit de corps that was expected.", esprit de corps appears in italics, and in this, "The slogan Free a Marine to Fight proved to be a strong drawing card for the Reserve...", Free a Marine to Fight is italicised. (I wouldn't worry about them.) JennyOz (talk) 07:52, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: It is me whose weird! Either I've been out in the sun too long or it's time to pack it in. Anyway, I removed both sets. Humble pie is not as digestable as apple pie. Thanks! Pendright (talk) 12:06, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Free a Marine to Fight is now supported by two links, one showing pages 1 – 20, the other from 21- 41. Please let me know if this is sufficient or more information is needed. Thanks so much for your time and effort, it sure paid off. Pendright (talk) 01:37, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pendright, I noticed you'd added the second one. I think it addresses the issue perfectly! Congratulations on the promotion! You deserve one too! Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 02:57, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deputy PM[edit]

Hi Jenny,

Just so it is clear, my edit summaries are not about you or your edits (which are clearly improvements). I was and am peeved that I made edits in several sections and then got an edit conflict and, as an IP editor, lost all the changes I'd made and was presented only with your last saved version so could not cut-and-paste my changes in. It's a fault in the software.

Cheers, a lowly IP, 125.168.41.242 (talk) 05:01, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IP, thanks for your note. I didn't get an alert when saving and I was not aware IPs don't get alerts. I actually had another edit conflict today, with another logged in user, which I noticed when checking via 'show changes' and chose to cancel rather than attempt to save. Anyway, I understand you were frustrated and I did not take your summaries personally. Hope your day got better:) Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 05:46, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jenny... to be clear, I did get an edit conflict alert, but all it displayed was your latest saved version, so unlike a usual edit conflict, it did not display what I had done and allow me to integrate the changes. Of course, there is no way that you could have known I was working on any changes. I have no idea if this was a software glitch or a design fault that produces edit conflict notices to IP users that are utterly useless for actually retaining changes from both editors. I just wanted to make sure that you knew the edit summaries were not directed at you.  :) 125.168.41.242 (talk) 15:21, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WAVES[edit]

@JennyOz: Thank you so much for your edits of the WAVES article, you have a keen eye. They were also timely, because I’m planning to nominate it for an ACR. Having reviewed the article, do you have any suggestions you’d care to offer. Pendright (talk) 06:09, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pendright, You're very welcome. I'd been promising myself to read some more of your articles after enjoying USMCWR so much. The one thing I remember noticing was the singular WAVE, mostly when referring to a member (WAVES itself not actually being a plural), but I guessed that was a common usage. I'd be very happy to have another look and will let you know if I have any suggestions. Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 06:48, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: The literature seems inconsistent on that point, so I followed what I thought was the most common usage. Thanks for your kind words and for looking at the article. Pendright (talk) 20:30, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: With your help, the WAVES article has managed to sucessfully cross the ACR finish line. Thanks again! Pendright (talk) 06:02, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Trove citations[edit]

Thanks for spotting the dodgy Trove citations, I have fixed the references to The News. I remembered reading a discussion between some Wikipedians and the NLA about this (newspaper names and links in the automatic citations), I think it was this post and this post on the Trove forum? I remember they did roll out some fixes a few years back, it may have been to do with these discussions. Probably a good idea to set up redirects for the capitalisation issues, but they'll have to fix the link to The News at their end. --Canley (talk) 07:32, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question?[edit]

@JennyOz: If you care to offer it, I’d like your opinionh on a grammar situation that has troubled me from time to time. According to Hoyle (American), adding “ing” to the ending of a verb changes both the meaning and the function of the verb. In some cases, it causes the verb to act as a noun or adjective, and in others, it changes the tense of the verb. So,If the word explained is changed to explaining, did a past tense verb become a present tense something else? The more research I do, the more circular it becomes. Anyway, I hope you are well! Pendright (talk) 07:05, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pendright!, Lovely to hear from you. Crikey! The more I think about your question, the more I am thinking it needs a good thinking! Here are some examples where meaning can change with "ing". He is cooking (present tense verb) or he has a cooking room. Cooking has become an adjective because the room isn't cooking. He is running (verb) in the election but he is in the running (noun). Saying is a verb, or a noun as in 'a common saying'. You are wiring the house - but it becomes the wiring (noun). I am building (verb) something - but a building is a noun. He was drumming (verb) or he got a good drumming (noun) from the boss or even he went to his sound-proofed drumming (adjective) room. We are sailing, that is a sailing boat.
But with explained/explaining... I suppose one could say "that was a good explaining" but we have the noun explanation. Maybe, "that is a good book if you need some explaining". In that sentence is explaining a noun? We need context - want to give me a sample sentence where 'explaining' could be a problem? I'll look forward to finding the answer with you. Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 11:31, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: Your examples helped me break through my mental logjam. I’ve been more hung up on tense than on context. So, in the future, I’ll be thinking about context, context, and context. As always, thank you for your willingness to help. I’m well and hope you are too. Pendright (talk) 04:09, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pendright, glad to hear that! Yep, I'm well thanks and it's spring downunder so the weather is more pleasant. Til next time, JennyOz (talk) 05:29, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WAVES article[edit]

@JennyOz: It seems I’m caught between a rock and a hard place and I’m hoping you can help. Let me explain: the WAVES article is now under FAR, and the reviewer had this to say –

  • Now, this is a great topic, and I'd really like to see it promoted. Going by the lead, I think it needed a more-thorough copyedit before nomination—though the lead is hard to get right. I haven't looked at the rest. Do you have collaborators who could go over it with fresh eyes? (That is, editors who haven't yet worked on it?) Tony (talk) 01:41, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

I’ve exhausted my circle of fresh eyes, so would you consider approaching some editor(s) you know to see if they might be amenable to do the deed? In any event, thanks for any help you care to offer. Pendright (talk) 20:50, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jenny, thanks for all your comments (as usual) and particularly at Kevin Beattie's FAC. Dweller and I were wondering if you'd be able to have a quick/slow/meticulous look at Alf Ramsey who we made a major surge on in mid-2017, got it to GA and then walked away. I think content-wise it's fine for FA, but would certainly benefit from your eagle eyes. If you can't, or simply don't want to, not a problem at all. Cheers, The Rambling Man (talk) 15:00, 15 January 2019 (UTC) P.S. I may be heading down under in late February, can't wait![reply]

Hello TRM, Yep, will have a look over Ramsey. It'll take a while, (what a full life he had!) and I have a few other things underway but will get there. Coming down under? Feb is a great time to visit, just like the other 11 months! JennyOz (talk) 10:29, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A question?[edit]

@JennyOz: Hello: Could you tell me the two most popular style guides used in British English? And in your writing, do you or do you not place a comma before the word which? And why or why not!

I hopw you are well!

Pendright (talk) 02:43, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pendright, nice to hear from you! Yes I'm quite well thanks, hope you are too. Well, as an Aussie, I use our styles though they are usually close to British. There are many guides listed at style guide but each can have some different "rules" and only confuse anyone trying to find a definitive answer. Even with our own MoS house style guide, you'll find editors debating fine points. I tend to google when I have a style query and read a few sites to gauge best use.
I'm not the right person to opine on precise rules but most importantly to me, the style will depend on the subject area and concision. I just go with what "sounds" best and I'm happy if somebody tweaks what I've written. I think we should always write with the reader in mind, not grammar pedantry.
As for "which"..., some might say "always" but it depends on clauses and length of the sentence. For example, in "Apples are a fruit which grow on trees." I wouldn't use a comma because it's a short sentence that doesn't need extra punctuation to help with understanding it. For a longer sentence like "Apples, which can be green or red, grow on trees.", the comma breaks it up for the reader. (I read an article recently with a sentence so long and with so much punctuation, including multiple commas, colons and semicolons, I had to read it about three times to understand it. It would have been far better for readers if broken into a few shorter sentences. That punctuation was probably "correct" but our purpose is for readers to learn something or to quickly find what they're looking for, not to show the ability to weave a paragraph into a complex single sentence.)
I am also aware that some things I was taught aren't necessarily right. We all had a Miss Snodgrass!
Don't be too concerned. If you're working on another fine FAC, the reviewers there will suggest or tweak any punctuation that really matters.
Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 07:26, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: Thank you so much for sharing your common sense approach to Wikipedia article writing. British English does have its variety of style guides. American English has a few style guides as well, but the Chicago Manual of Style is probably the most generally accepted choice for general writing. Even (so-called) generally accepted rules are open to interpretation and they often are. I guess that’s why they call writing an art.
I’ve been working on an article that was promoted to GA in 2015, with the expectation of nominating it for ACR. When I’m done, do you think you might have time to take a look?
All the best! Pendright (talk) 23:54, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yep Pendright, I'm familiar with Chicago MoS and its authority in the US. I'd reckon that across all English language MoSs, whether universities, media houses or even commercial organisations, they probably agree 90+% on grammar "rules".
Sure, I'll be happy to look at your latest. (And then I'll look forward to following its review. I learn so much from watching how the reviewers fine tune articles. I find ACR probably the most collegially respectful and helpful process on here.) Let me know when you're ready. Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 01:15, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@JennyOz: Thanks, I'll ping you then. Pendright (talk) 20:07, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @JennyOz: I’ve finally finished trying to fine-tune the Cadet Nurse Corps, the article I mentioned to you. It was promoted to GA in 2015, but was in need of some repair. I hope to nominate it for ACR in due course. Anyway, thanks in advance for your walk through. No hurry. Best wishes. Pendright (talk) 04:43, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
G'day Pendright, I'll have a read through this week. If I come across any minor typos, I'll tweak them as I go and if I have any suggestions or questions I'll add them to the article talk page. You okay with that? If not, just tell what you'd prefer. I'm looking forward to learning about this service! Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 06:01, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Georg(e) Forster[edit]

Thank you for having a look at A Voyage Round the World before it will hit the Main Page! However, I am not sure whether I should agree with this edit: all of these books cite him as "George Forster" (and so does the original title page). On the other hand, while GF was known as George while in England, most of the literature about him uses the German form "Georg Forster", including the only English-language biography (by Thomas P. Saine) and the Encyclopaedia Britannica. The Royal Society uses George. I think there's a case to be made for harmonising all appearances of the name, but I would prefer to use the names as used in each of the publications (which then means using both Georg and George). One of these days I'll try to write something useful about this and add it to Georg Forster, but I haven't quite decided what to do... Let me know what you think about how to approach this in A Voyage Round the World. Happy editing, —Kusma (t·c) 19:14, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kusma, Thanks for your message (and for the article). I agree and have undone the last of my changes. My confusion stemmed from Gbooks and WorldCat both using the "Georg" spelling in their entry text, though their images of the Title Page and book cover of course show George. (A trap I'll be aware of in future!) I'm not sure harmonising is better than a simple note explaining the two spellings? BTW, the Liebersohn article (currently ref 20) at Common-Place - when I attempted to check its spelling the URL did not resolve but I found it here. I was not sure whether to change the URL. Thanks again for the article. I've never read much about Cook's second voyage and have made a note to read Forster's report when time allows. Regards, JennyOz (talk) 03:01, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. It is quite confusing with people tacitly using a different spelling of the author's name than on the title page (and I do the same in the article...) I put a standard web archive link in for the Liebersohn citation for now, but maybe your link is even better. Thank you for pointing this out! —Kusma (t·c) 06:32, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Call me Sherlock (possibly)[edit]

Does the Oz suffix indicate you are Australian? If yes, would you mind also checking the Australasian Antarctic Expedition for pollution by nasty foreign varieties of English (though I get the impression that, like the Canadians, the Aussies are pretty laid back about the arguments that consume the British and Americans). Hi Jenny. I do a fair it of both copy editing and article reviewing myself, and fairly frequently nominate articles. I was quite serious earlier, and if you were to run any future nominations of mine through your diligent review process I would be most grateful. Regardless, excellent work. Do please keep on doing it. Gog the Mild (talk) 19:53, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gog the Mild, Sir you are too kind. I get two advantages reviewing your (and many others') nominations. I enjoy your style and I learn about subjects I thought I had little interest in! This article has a bit of a troubled history, and I clearly shouldn't have sent it on without more rigorous editing--I guess I was a bit tired. Asking for a favour[edit]

Hi Jenny. You were good enough to do a review for Battle of Cape Hermaeum at ACR - here. I think that you missed my ping, and I didn't re-ping as it didn't attract any further interest and I withdrew it after six weeks. It is now at FAC - here - and I wonder if you might be able to have another look at it? Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 17:31, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sure Gog the Mild, see you there. JennyOz (talk) 08:07, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jenny, appreciated. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:00, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And yet again I arrive at your door with my begging bowl. I have recently done some work on Punic Wars; before I nominate it for GAN and FAC it could really do with a good hard examination from someone who knows what they are doing. Obviously, if time or motivation doesn't permit I entirely understand. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:52, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Gog! I am just back after rolling technical problems with my devices. It'll take me a few days to get back into the swing of things. While I am a bit hesitant to offer any promises, (in case probs start again), I'd be delighted to look at your article. If I disappear again, please know it's out of my control. Now, tell me what are your preferences. Want me to just jot down comments? Or would you be happy for me to adjust typos (if any) etc, and if so, all in one edit or in stages for you to undo any easily? Happy to work to whatever you wish. JennyOz (talk) 05:15, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jenny, that sounds pretty rough. You are a star! I foolishly entered the WikiCup, and the final round starts soon - assuming that I get through. My competitive spirit is seriously kicking in! I won't enter again, but right now I am hooked. I completely understand that your technical issues may reoccur, so I shall treat anything you can do as a wonderful bonus. My suggestion would be just write all and any suggestions straight into the article. There are few enough of your ideas that I ever wish to challenge, and if I do we can discuss on the talk page or I can just BRD revert! However you like; for me it is as easy to review 10 edits by you as it is one. Thanks again. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:51, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK Gog, no problem, I'll probably start it tomorrow. See you then! JennyOz (talk) 16:00, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Gog, I'm up to Cannae so still a little to go. Just wanted to let you know in case you were concerned:) Will do my changes and add questions tomorrow. JennyOz (talk) 13:06, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In your own time Jenny, I am more than grateful to you for doing this; I am certainly not holding you to a schedule. But thanks for the update - sounds as if you're two thirds of the way through the text. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:56, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have just sneaked a peak. Amazing work. Although it is a bit embarrassing seeing all of my sloppiness laid bare. Thank you. Gog the Mild (talk) 15:23, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Gog, thanks for your kind words. (Sloppiness? Nonsense! It's amazing how little there is to do in such a mammoth article!) I have a few left-over misc suggestions/questions. Shall I put them on the article talk page? JennyOz (talk) 16:21, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
JennyOz, that would be great Jenny. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:23, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

World War[edit]

I am not sure that it's a good idea to speak about "First World War" when it's a 1920s topic, and no Second in site yet. We call places by their historic names at a given time, - why not wars? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:30, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week[edit]

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of adding sparkle to articles. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Gog the Mild submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I would like to nominate Editor JennyOz. They are in many ways the epitome of a Wikignome: inserting useful grammar corrections and MoS compliances in a helpful and almost ridiculously modest way. They also do a fair bit of assessing, at all levels. It can be embarrassing to have them point out the basic errors in your FAC, but this is more than compensated by the knowledge that after JennyOz has visited, whatever the article's other flaws, no one is going to pick at the grammar. I have taken to leaving a saucer of milk out by my articles, in the hope of attracting their attention. Numerous other highly experienced editors regularly ask JennyOz to check over their articles. I think that an EotW award would be an appropriate reward for years of putting that final sparkle on Wikipedia's best articles.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

A wonderful example of a true Wikignome: inserts grammar corrections and MoS compliances in a helpful and almost ridiculously modest way. They assess things on many levels. They correct basic grammar flaws in your FAC in such a way as to leave it error-free. Many veteran highly-experienced editors turn to Jenny asking to check over their articles. She has spent years of putting that final sparkle on Wikipedia's best articles.

Revert in Cliché verre[edit]

Hey, practiced would be correct in American English in the context that it was used in that sentence in Cliché verre. Seeing MOS:RETAIN, I've thus had to undo that edit of yours. —I'llbeyourbeach (talk) 10:10, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry, actually practiced would also be what you'd use in British English for that; I just realised it's the noun practice not the verb practise. Huh. So add MOS:COMMONALITY to that. —I'llbeyourbeach (talk) 10:16, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:42, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

American logistics in the Northern France campaign[edit]

my article on American logistics in the Northern France campaign is languishing at FAC at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/American logistics in the Northern France campaign/archive1 for want of reviewers. The article is technical and complicated like World War II in general, so the subject isn't too popular, but it is important. I think you already looked at it once before it was split. If anyone could pitch in with a review, it would be greatly appreciated. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 19:00, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jenny, Would you be able to review the M113 armoured personnel carriers in Australian service FAC in the next few days? It's getting to the point where it's in danger of being archived. I appreciate that it's a big and somewhat sprawling article, but if it's helpful the material on the technical details has been checked by military history nerds (for better or worse...), and you might want to focus on the more accessible/interesting material on how the things were acquired and their service history, which might well be where any remaining problems are most likely to be. Thank you, Nick-D (talk) 00:47, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick-D, Yep! I have just finished Green and am starting on M113. Shouldn't have left the hardest til last maybe but thanks for the pointers of what specifically needs looking at. That helps. Best wishes, JennyOz (talk) 05:20, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Haha Victuallers, you too! (See below.) BTW I don't think Kuipers-Rietberg was ever officially in red here, but the article was prompted by a Dutch news report, on the occasion of 5 May, that the role of women in the Dutch resistance had been (predictably) underplayed. Drmies (talk) 00:12, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bravery of the resistance during WWII[edit]

I was browsing your talk page and noticed your comment on bravery. If you didn't know it, then you might be interested in Witold Pilecki, who I assume would be the only person known to qualify for Category:Infiltrators of the Auschwitz concentration camp (which is presumably why it's not a Wikipedia category). And thank for your help copy-editing Grant Robert Sutherland, just in time for the DYK that went up today. I am constantly astonished at how many times I can read over my own work, without spotting those obvious typos. ("University of medicine" - what was I thinking?)

P.S. I wonder if we are long-lost cousins?

Thank you[edit]

Osbert Lancaster went through a peer review and the rigours of the featured article candidacy process without anyone spotting the typo you spotted and corrected yesterday. Charles William Warner[edit]

Thanks for the suggestion. Campbell only referred to "Lt. Gov. Hill". I meant to track down who that must have been, but it slipped my mind. Also thanks for the copyedits - I'm so bad at copyediting my own writing. Guettarda (talk) 16:14, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the article Guettarda, Warner sounds like a decent fellow. I'm not good at copyediting my own writing either! JennyOz (talk) 16:38, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Warner is definitely an interesting person, but I have mixed feelings about his legacy (essentially, the transformation of a multi-lingual society into a monolingual one). And in trying to leave the obvious resentment that some of my sources felt I hope I haven't presented an overly positive picture of him. Anyway, there's a lot more to add from the sources I have (Chapman and Campbell in particular), and one more important source I need to get my hands on. Guettarda (talk) 17:18, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Guettarda, nope, the article is not "overly positive". I sensed that, even with his anglicising, he advocated non-denominational schooling for social harmony. I'll look forward to reading more of him with any expansion. JennyOz (talk) 17:57, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Commas[edit]

A couple of my boilerplate responses to commaists:

I am aware of the, to my mind strange, convention of inserting a comma after any initial mention of time. It is not one I use. So proponents of it would write, and, I assume, say "Today, I ate breakfast"; I would write and say "Today I ate breakfast". Either is acceptable. (Much as I itch to remove them when copy editing for GoCE.)

You are, I gather, a "commaist"; I am, you will have gathered, not. During a FAC discussion of one of my nominations earlier this year an experienced reviewer who is also a commaist gently mocked themself by quoting the grammar writer Lynn Truss.

Gog the Mild (talk) 21:02, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Goodonya Gog. I agree. (Your breakfast example is so similar to my slept one.) Thanks for the Truss quote. I'd seen it mentioned last year or so and had forgotten to save the link. I do though appreciate that if someone was taught that commas must be used to that degree, text without them must so simply look/be wrong. It's that urge not to scratch all itches you learn here. Your non-commaist comrade, JennyOz (talk) 09:41, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for John Landy[edit]

G'day[edit]

G'day Jenny, hope you are having a great break and had a good Xmas. As you know, I've done a bit of work on SA pollie bios (Bill Denny and Arthur Blackburn), and recently for Ernest Roberts (Australian politician) through GAN. I wanted to share that I am on a bit of a mission to improve bio articles on SA pollies who served. I currently have Jack Critchley at GAN. Even though I managed to get Denny and Blackburn to FA, I'm not sure how much interest there will be in some of these other guys from WP Military history members as in some cases their military service is incidental rather than the basis of their notability. I'd appreciate it if you would consider taking a look at any that pique your interest when they appear for review. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 19:22, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PM, yep, happy to. I've added Roberts and Critchley to my watchlist so should notice when FAC note added to their talk pages. Best wishes for a great 2023. JennyOz (talk) 12:30, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jenny, you too! Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:46, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for Danny Kaleikini[edit]

On 9 January 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Danny Kaleikini, which you nominated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. SpencerT•C 04:46, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A lei for you![edit]

Mahalo nui loa
Thank you for nominating Danny Kaleikini at ITN and for your meticulous editing and proofreading across so many articles at DYK! Cielquiparle (talk) 12:19, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Cielquiparle, that's very kind of you! It's a beautiful lei but all kudos is yours for the article. Aloha. JennyOz (talk) 13:38, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

General Joe Potter[edit]

After you suggested I link to William Everett Potter in American transportation in the Siegfried Line campaign, I saw that the article was in poor shape, so I revised it over the Christmas break. It will appear on the front page in a few days time. Thanks for your help. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:41, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hawkeye7, Ha! When I first saw Colonel Potter I thought of this fellow. I noticed your work on the article and will have a look before MP appearance. JennyOz (talk) 03:49, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for consistent quality checks and improvements! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:58, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Gerda, HNY! JennyOz (talk) 08:57, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Um ...[edit]

What error(s)? 4bofus (talk) 18:32, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, um... 4bofus, in your (IP) edit to the caption
  1. You removed the name of the television series but left behind the closing italics markup
  2. You added a spelling error (center instead of centre)
  3. You added a full stop (period) to a sentence fragment, and
  4. I also considered your "Image from a storyboard frame" as tautological (a frame in this context is an image)
So I decided the caption as approved when the article went through FAC was better and replaced it with a clear edit summary. Thank you for your question. JennyOz (talk) 08:17, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A Dobos torte for you![edit]

The Fonz (talk) has given you a Dobos torte to enjoy! Seven layers of fun because you deserve it.

To give a Dobos torte and spread the WikiLove, just place {{subst:Dobos Torte}} on someone else's talkpage, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.

Hi JennyOz. Thank you very much for contributing multiple improvements to the article I created, Chauncey Yellow Robe. I admire how your rephrasing added clarity to sentences throughout the article. I also deeply appreciate fixing my mistyped transcription of his given name, which is arguably the most important word on the page. Thanks again and I hope you enjoy the dessert. The Fonz (talk) 19:59, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ayyyy, thanks The Fonz, delicious! I've just made a few more edits, including one fixing my own error. JennyOz (talk) 07:40, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copy editing?[edit]

Hi Jenny, and many thanks for your work on knocking sense into my last couple of FACs. I am after a favour. I am just wrapping up work on Battle of Zama, one of the big/famous battles of the Punic Wars. It has a lot of sources and has needed a lot of work. Frankly, I have now read it so many times that I can't focus on it. It will be my FAC after next, so being nominated, hopefully, in the second half of April.

What it could do with is a rigorous copy edit to weed out all of the nonsense that I am too jaded to recognise. So you sprang to mind. If you fancy it, my draft is here. If you don't, no worries; I know I am pushing my luck and I very much appreciate what you do do to make "my" articles presentable. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:12, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sure Gog, see you there. JennyOz (talk) 07:47, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jenny. It is probably obvious, but feel free to simply correct all of my usual typos, grammar errors and confusions straight into the article. I have just nominated battle of the Trebia, so Zama will be next up. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:39, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yep Gog, definitely ce not review mode. JennyOz (talk) 04:28, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

POTD[edit]

Kia ora Jenny, one of the things that I do (when I have some spare time) is to look a few days to weeks ahead of upcoming main page content. And I've found a brand-new editor with 68 edits under their belt as of right now. Thirty of those edits have been the creation of POTD templates. Oh dear. There's a lot of tidy up necessary, like this one. I thought I'd leave you a note just in case you get to it. Schwede66 09:49, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Kia ora and g'day Schwede, hmm, that does seem unusual for a brand new user to jump in and make main page content decisions. (I've never bothered to view who created the template. I assumed there was a team effort of nominations and their approval, à la TFA coordinated scheduling). Thanks for your note. I'll help keep an eye out for redirects etc. when I check for "next day" typos. JennyOz (talk) 06:25, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

History of military logistics[edit]

I have a new article on the History of military logistics which I have up for review at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/History of military logistics. It is a sprawling article covering 2,000 years of global history, and no doubt has my usual large number of typos. It would be much appreciates if you could you have a look at it for me. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:10, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hawkeye, I'll be happy to have a read through for any typos and will appreciate learning about the evolution of logistics. JennyOz (talk) 07:56, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for Simon Crean[edit]

On 30 June 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Simon Crean, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Stephen 04:31, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Des Corcoran[edit]

G’day Jenny, I hope you’re well and staying indoors in this rubbish weather! I’ve just had a crack at getting the Des Corcoran article up to GA standard (lots to do to get it anywhere near FA, admittedly), and I wondered if you might take a look and see if there are any suggestions you might be able to make regarding areas for improvement? I will look up Hansard and see what I can say about his first speech, and look more closely at his changes of seat, ministerial work, policy focii, etc, but anything that comes to mind, please let me know? Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:37, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PM, sure, I'll have a look over in next day or so. You're right about the weather. I really don't like winter. At least we're past the shortest day and a third through. Have a great weekend, JennyOz (talk) 12:10, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jenny! Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 13:12, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A review?[edit]

Hi Jenny, I hope that things are good with you. I was wondering if you fancied running your forensic-like reviewing skills over Iron Gwazi at FAC? It is from a first-time nominator and already has three prose supports. However, I would feel much more relaxed about it if a reviewer whom I knew to be both informed and rigorous had gone through it. Obviously if time or motivation does not permit, that is fine. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:27, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay Charmer, I bought a ticket to ride! JennyOz (talk) 08:33, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jenny, you won't regret it - I know how to keep a girl happy. Er, it is by repeatedly asking her to review obscure Wikipedia articles, yes? Gog the Mild (talk) 10:25, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Gog yes, um, I'm happy I've finished it. JennyOz (talk) 20:23, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much Jenny. Your touch is as excellent as always. Apologies if it was a bit of a drag. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:32, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Teamwork Barnstar
Iron Gwazi passed its FAC! Although I am a primary contributor to the article, your involvement was just as significant. The road to FA relies on community consensus and voluntary commentary. You dedicated your time and skills to help improve the article to its current condition. Without your input, the article would not have reached its status quo. You are a significant contributor! Whether you are a one-time commenter or contribute to other GA, PR, or FA candidates, I hereby award JennyOz with the Teamwork Barnstar! Thank you for your efforts to improve the Iron Gwazi article. Adog (TalkCont) 02:39, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for helping push the FAC to its final point. Your contributions picked up on what I had not seen. Taking fresh eyes on the subject from someone outside of the amusement industry was of utmost help and necessary. Again, thank you. Adog (TalkCont) 02:42, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Adog! You're very welcome. I enjoyed reading the article and you were a pleasure to work with at the nom. Congratulations on your first FA. I am sure there'll be more! JennyOz (talk) 06:44, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Howard Florey[edit]

I wonder if you could take a look at Howard Florey, which I have up for FAC at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Howard Florey/archive1? Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:23, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hawkeye7, I'm a step ahead, I started on Florey last night! JennyOz (talk) 08:02, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry[edit]

October songs
my story today

I am sorry, Jenny, that I caused you pain, and would like to try to find out what I can do better next time. I may have had language problems. Let's begin with one example, and I call Jim as well, as the author. I often ask in reviews (DYK and also FA): "How do you feel about an infobox?" (... and the stress should be on feel even if not marked.) I have learned in 10 hard years that there strong emotions involved in the topic, which I don't understand but have to accept that they exist. I think that by now an infobox is the normal thing to have and that acceptance grew over the last year (Mozart, Laurence Olivier, per the community). I feel that my standard question is simple and neutral, and I take "no" for an answer, and take no answer for "no". In the nomination, I asked no one specifically, but expected a reply rather from the author. I don't ask the question when I think I know an author's preference (but you never know, see today's Walt Disney. For Jim, I know that there was a reluctance at some time, but such things can change, and I am a curious person. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:30, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:03, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce[edit]

On 26 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that John Lennon liked to tell how an older woman lost her temper when she saw his psychedelic Rolls-Royce (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I have History of military logistics up for review at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/History of military logistics/archive1. If you could take a loom that would be greatly appreciated.
