Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Tiger into Tiger conservation. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. Your reversion of my edit to "Giraffe"[edit]

Greetings and felicitations. I noticed that you reverted my edit to the article "Giraffe". I made the changes to the article because to me it looks like (large image:) this, and the galleries are, in my mind, the best way to solve this. Would you please be so kind as to undo your reversion? —DocWatson42 (talk) 04:08, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DocWatson42, I can't view the link. And the gallery style clashes with how the images are organized in the rest of the article. LittleJerry (talk) 16:38, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry that the image cannot be viewed using that link. Try this one. —DocWatson42 (talk) 07:45, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I see, perhaps we should remove some images. LittleJerry (talk) 16:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Elizium23. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Alex Jones, but you didn't provide a reliable source. Notice

The article Cat nutrition has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to be a copy-paste of a section from the Wikipedia article on cats - which would make it an unneccesary fork. Was flagged by copypatrol, listing a mirror(?) of the aforementioned Wikipedia page onto another site.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reverting[edit]

When you are reverting someone's edit, please explain in the edit summary why you reverted the edit. An edit summary like no thanks is unhelpful and it may lead other users to question your actions. Thank you, Interstellarity (talk) 20:29, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wolf[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Wolf has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

In the Etymology section the article says: "The English "wolf" stems from the Old English wulf, which is itself thought to be derived from the Proto-Germanic *wulfaz ... Old English literature contains several instances of Anglo-Saxon kings and warriors taking on wulf as a prefix or suffix in their names." Examples include Wulfhere ("Wolf Army"), Cynewulf ("Royal Wolf") etc ...".

These are not examples of actual names. I wonder of you should actually provide some examples Cynewulf a poet, and Wulfhere of Mercia a king. And then say "English wolf related names include: Wulfhere ("Wolf Army"), Cynewulf ("Royal Wolf") etc ...".

Just a thought.

Best of luck with the FA process when you get to it.

It is hard to get a featured article about a hurricane or a road. Harder still to get a featured article about a historical figure or niche topic not popular among FAC reviewers.

But to get an article like wolf up to WP:FA is the most difficult thing any of us can do here, especially when it was previously demoted. It's in another league...we should even have a more coveted icon, perhaps. I'm delighted to see it on the front page. Thanks for your diligence! Koala[edit]

There are supposed to be NO cites in the lead paragraphs, okay? LittleJerry (talk) 22:47, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:LEAD states As a general rule of thumb, a lead section should contain no more than four well-composed paragraphs and be carefully sourced as appropriate. This seems to contradict your position on refs/sources. Whilst I agree about not including refs in the usual short lead that you see on most articles, when the lead becomes a mini article like this then I think including refs is entirely appropriate. Maybe the lead to this article needs to be trimmed and the content here moved into the body of the article. Nick Thorne talk 00:02, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sourced when approved = quotations. The lead is supposed to summarize the body which is already cited. LittleJerry (talk) 00:07, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I assume you meant appropriate, rather than approved. No matter. I'm not going to pursue this, I really feel the article could use a bit of a rewrite, especially the lead, but I don't have the time or the energy for that at the moment. Have a nice day! - Nick Thorne talk 01:29, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Koala again[edit]

With this edit you again removed the words inaccurate and miscalled, moving the article away from the long term status quo. In addition, you made the following edit summary another user removed this too so the consensus is now against you. This is patently ridiculous, two editors don't make any sort of a consensus, never mind that we now have two editors on both sides of the argument. If you really wish to establish a consensus, take it to the article talk page. I will consider further reversion to be disruption and shall act accordingly. - Nick Thorne talk 11:57, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Scorpion lead image[edit]

The female emperor scorpion is highly atypical of the group, so I'd oppose it as the lead image. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:39, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Seems we need a high-res horizontal image... sigh. On another matter, we've been asked to use Stockmann & Ythier, which is available at Zlibrary. Unfortunately the reviewer has immediately opposed; I've made quite a few fixes, and perhaps we can bring them round. The claims about numbers of species will need to be worked on carefully before we reply to that item; basically they now all need to be checked, maybe from that book. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:37, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Chiswick Chap, I downloaded the book and it seems to be mostly a guidebook for beginners. I don't know what we could use it for. As for the image, if thats the best one we can find then are don't see the need for a change. LittleJerry (talk) 18:51, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's all "sayable"; or they can ask for a specific image from Commons if they have one in mind. I'd not have thought it worthwhile arguing much with the reviewers, however, even if they're more or less wrong; it's usually possible to do something to keep them happy (e.g. put in a few refs to the book for the sake of harmony). The Stockmann & Ythier distribution map is a lot better than what we have at the moment - if you ask me nicely I might do some graphics! Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:12, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then. I could add in more bits of information on resistance to radiation and a few other things. I'm not good with the taxonomy stuff. LittleJerry (talk) 19:16, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've added all the families from the Scorpion Files; they're more up to date than I thought, parts are from 2020 so no worries there. And the map we have is not unlike Lourenco's, so I shall leave it alone for now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:12, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zebra scheduled for TFA[edit]

This is to let you know that the Zebra article has been scheduled as today's featured article for January 31, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 31, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

Done. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:09, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with a phrase like 'cultural significance' is that if taken narrowly, "culture" means just the arts, while if it's taken broadly as Culture, it includes use as food and pets and much else; and both those senses are a poor fit for the section right now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:07, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia[edit]

Jupiter[edit]

Dear Litte Jerry, It’s a pity that you have deleted my contribution of today concerning the new corrected figures of the Kelvin-Helmholtz mechanism on Jupiter. If you disagree with these new facts, you must give sounded arguments I’m interested in.

Best regards,

Christophe1946--21:45, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Christophe1946 (talk)

You did not format your sourcing correctly. LittleJerry (talk) 00:52, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll correct the two sources. Christophe1946--09:33, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Christophe1946 (talk)

It's done. I hope it's now OK !Christophe1946 (talk) 10:08, 5 January 2021 (UTC)--Christophe1946 (talk) 10:08, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand your scepticism concerning the shrinking of Jupiter of only 1 mm/yr by the Kelvin-Helmholtz mechanism. You can read the book by Patrick Irwin. On page 4 of its second edition (2009) it is clearly given 1 mm/yr and not 2 cm/year. From where is coming this last wrong figure, I don't know.

His value of 1 mm is corroborated by the paper by Liming Li et al. of 2018 giving an experimental flux of internal heat of 7.485 W/m^2 as measured on place by the Cassini probe. This correct reference to this paper is already given as n° 12, attesting the new figure, in the box, for the Bond albedo of 0.503 !

You can easy calculate yourself the effect and can get the observed figure of 1 mm/yr related to 7.5 W/m^2 with the derivative with respect to t of the formula giving the total gravitational energy of Jupiter (see here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin%E2%80%93Helmholtz_mechanism) :

U = (3/10)G M^2/R = 1.03 10^36 J,

i.e. dU/dt = -(3/10)G M^2/R^2 dR/dt = -1.46 10^28 dR/dt.

Introducing dR/dt = -1 mm/yr = -0.001 m/yr = -3.17 10^-11 m/s, you get dU/dt = 4.64 10^17 W.

Dividing by the whole area of Jupiter 6.14 10^16 m^2 you get 7.55 W/m^2.

Are you now convinced ?

If you introduce 2 cm/yr instead of 1 mm/yr, you'll get 150 W/m^2, clearly a much too high figure.

Please, I ask you to restore my paragraph !

Thank you in advance and with my kind regards,

I have volunteered to copy edit Jupiter. I intend to be fairly bold about it. I shall also likely flag up a list of queries on the article's talk page. Feel free to come back at me on anything you are not happy with. Let's see if we can save the big J.

Apologies again, but I am standing back from Jupiter.

A bit off topic for WP...[edit]

I saw this article today, [1] and was saddened and disturbed. It seems unusual to me (not that I am an expert) that a young male would kill a female, even an older one. Male jaguars killing females in the wild, doesn't make good evolutionary sense. But both jaguars were in captivity, so the dynamics were different, I suppose. Do you have any insight or opinions to share? Thanks for your time and consideration. Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 04:13, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LittleJerry I agree wholeheartedly. What on earth gave you the impression that I wished to include this information in the Jaguar article? I have reread my initial post several times...I never mentioned including this solitary incident in our encyclopedia article. That's why I headed the section as "off topic". I merely wished to ask for your insight or opinions, as an animal expert, concerning a troubling incident. It was a private question, from a minor editor to an editor with more in-depth understanding. I do apologize for troubling you, but I am baffled as to why you thought I wished to include this information. Please explain.Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 02:44, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Whale Copy Edit[edit]

Hello:

I've now completed the copy edit of the Blue whale article you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors.

I have added two "clarification needed" tags to what appear to be two bits of stray text in the Lifespan and Swim speed sections. Otherwise I think with the work you did on it the article is in good shape. I think it makes logical sense to discuss each population separately so I have not made changes there. I think there is a discrepancy in the date hunting Blue whales was banned. In the Historic threats section it says 1966, uncited, and in the Population section it says 1967, which does not appear (that I could see) in the given citation. The current population estimate would be a helpful addition, as the 10,000 to 25,000 estimate is from 2008.

Congratulations on getting Beaver to FA status. That was quite a journey.

OK. I've filled in what I hope are all the forenames and checked what I hope are all the citations. It must be easier to start over than try to spray quality onto who-knows-who's wobbly text and flaky citations. We'll get there, probably. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:08, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you'll get there. I'm sorry I couldn't support this time around, but looking forward to putting in my support for the second attempt. Thanks for working on such an important article :). FemkeMilene (talk) 18:15, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Message[edit]

Hello my friend. I hope you remember me. I need a bit of your assistance on the topic of adding statuses to particular species, especially that of animals, as most of them may have outdated statuses that have not been updated. I would like your advice on the matter so I know how I may change them appropriately without the edits coming off as vandalism or edit wars. Thank you my friend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Firekong1 (talkcontribs) 14:58, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just update them and cite the lasting IUCN pages. LittleJerry (talk) 15:02, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. I'll do just that whenever the situation calls for it. Thank you friend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Firekong1 (talkcontribs) 16:54, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Giraffe status[edit]

I was looking around at several geniuses, and I noticed that giraffes (giraffe specifically) and dicerorhinus had conservation statuses. I was thinking whether or not I should remove them, as they are genuses, and not species. I remember that the same thing also happened for african elephants and zebras, and I was not told that genuses do not have conservation statuses, and I almost learned the hard way (from when you first notified me). Because of this, I would like your permission/advice on whether to not it would be wise to remove the statuses. I was thinking of telling you this for a while, but I feared that it might be silly. And should I also add conservation statuses for borneo elephants and barbary stags? Firekong1 (talk) 00:31, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The latest IUCN lists then as one species under Vulnerable, so no. LittleJerry (talk) 10:16, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. But what about dicerorhinus and the borneo elephant? Firekong1 (talk) 14:00, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about that. LittleJerry (talk) 15:53, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm asking you if I can remove the status for dicerorhinus and add the status to the borneo elephant. If I have your permission. Firekong1 (talk) 20:45, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need my permission as I'm not involved in those articles. LittleJerry (talk) 21:14, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I understand. If anything comes up regarding the conservation statuses of elephants, giraffes, zebras, and whatnot, please let me know. Firekong1 (talk) 22:19, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted it since there's nothing special about the Kafa Biosphere Reserve to mention it. LittleJerry (talk) 20:37, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I saw your revert of the updated lion images noted: "Why did you ignore ("Please do not replace these featured images without a consensus")
Apologies, I did not see this note. How does one go about seeking a consensus. For the lion images, I am certain there will be a consensus that the lioness image is better (not only sharper, but an overall better example of a lioness and a perfect specimen in my opinion). The male image too is sharper, and a great looking lion at that, but I can understand if the consensus will be to retain the current image as it remains a really good example of a male. Red panda[edit]

Sorry for my silence in the past few days. Just finalised the aurochs GA and had a bit of a struggle there with an editor who kept butting in. So will step in from tomorrow on. Frankly: didn't really like that you removed the original sources in the section Taxonomy. In most other FACs e.g. jaguar, lion, Indian roller, .. they are all in. Lets think this over. – BhagyaMani (talk) 23:04, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What sources should I have kept? I'm starting from stretch here and I'm using the source I found most useful. LittleJerry (talk) 00:18, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The ones in this version for descriptions of fulgens by Cuvier, styani by Oldfield + ochraceus by Hodgson + discussion of these type specimens by Pocock. –
Those are historical writings at this point and it is best to use secondary sources when writing the history of panda taxonomy. LittleJerry (talk) 02:44, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In the 2021 book-chapter 26, I cannot see pages 477–479. Do authors provide a map of their study areas in northern Myanmar? The present map at IUCN RL dates 2015, so range in Myanmar is not yet part of this assessment. – BhagyaMani (talk) 14:23, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

yes. LittleJerry (talk) 14:44, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Super + thanks!! – BhagyaMani (talk) 14:48, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BhagyaMani, assuming you're using the same map could you also remove the dashed border in Northeast India? I don't think China's territorial claims there are relevant. LittleJerry (talk) 15:13, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll probably use the same basemap as in this one, i.e. without country borders, only in a smaller extent of course. Will show you per cloud, before I upload it. – BhagyaMani (talk) 15:22, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at the map draft. What do you think about colours + borders? BhagyaMani (talk) 19:37, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking maybe you should zoom out a little more so we can see the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea. LittleJerry (talk) 21:30, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you like it; I also like it better than the first draft. Then we are ready to submit for FAC, I suppose. Unless you still have sth. worthwhile adding? – BhagyaMani (talk) 13:12, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, looking at it again. I think you should add the borders of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam too. As for FAC, I think we should get a peer review first. I know a few people who will look it over. I want to take a little break and focus on getting Queen angelfish on track. LittleJerry (talk) 14:10, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Ok for peer-review. I'm ready for submitting to FAC when you are. – BhagyaMani (talk) 15:36, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the sentence about bamboo density in Gaoligongshan NNR, ref 54. This is so dense, it would hardly be possible to walk through and count, but nobody noticed yet. I checked figures twice, but seem to be the only one who wonders whether these are reliable. – BhagyaMani (talk) 09:49, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about that. I'll let you decide. LittleJerry (talk) 15:42, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think that the changes to the 2 subspecific names in the section on *Subspecies* are appropriate? I don't, but didn't revert as I do not want to risk another clash and edit war with this person so shortly before the FA comes through. – BhagyaMani (talk) 19:35, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look whether you think this about metabolic requirements is relevant for the *Diet and feeding* section: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0173274BhagyaMani (talk) 16:26, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I just read the *Characteristics* section again. How about moving the content re Microbes in its gut may play a role in its processing of bamboo .. to the section on *Diet and feeding*? I think this would fit better there, perhaps before the sentence starting Despite its low-quality diet, .... And you? – BhagyaMani (talk) 10:55, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok then. LittleJerry (talk) 14:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I like the 2 cladograms side by side, super!! But think it would be more informative to instead of the *authors and year* statements provide info about the different methods used. And YOU? E.g. for the 2005 one : Analysis based on concatenated sequence from six genes of 76 Carnivora species and for the 2018 one : Analysis based on 46 genes of 75 musteloid species or alike. – BhagyaMani (talk) 14:52, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Those titles are too long and wouldn't fit well. LittleJerry (talk) 15:55, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, quite long. It is possible to give the cladogram a header by adding this: |main-caption=Phylogenetic relationship of the red panda based on analysis of
and then replace *author year* by : !six genes from 76 Carnivora species !!46 genes from 75 musteloid species
How is that? – BhagyaMani (talk) 16:24, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note that a newer paper has been pointed out at the bottom here that includes both groups in a single cladogram, and would therefore be better to use:[1] FunkMonk (talk) 16:57, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How about now? LittleJerry (talk) 12:41, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Queen angelfish[edit]

Land terrain or elevation profile may not be important for this map? See this with wikimedia map as baselayer and this with google hybrid map as baselayer lightened up a bit, as the original shows oceans in very dark blue. Labels for country names are not crystal clear, I'm afraid, but readable. Which one do you prefer? – BhagyaMani (talk) 16:29, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See also this with National Geographic basemap. – BhagyaMani (talk) 17:56, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BhagyaMani, I'll go with the second one. Preferably without labels and borders. LittleJerry (talk) 21:52, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tested a few other basemaps and like this a lot, as country names are better readable. You? BhagyaMani (talk) 13:26, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we need country names at all. They are not on other range maps and are distracting. Borders probably aren't necessary either with an animal that lives in the ocean. Would you be able to upload the google hybrid map without labels? LittleJerry (talk) 14:19, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Then see this BhagyaMani (talk) 14:30, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see it. LittleJerry (talk) 15:20, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And now? BhagyaMani (talk) 15:23, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced the file. – BhagyaMani (talk) 09:35, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wolf reversion[edit]

The article says "Since pre-Christian times, Germanic peoples such as the Anglo-Saxons took on wulf as a prefix or suffix in their names. Examples include...." "Isangrim ("Gray Mask")" is clearly not an example of Germanic peoples, or anyone else, taking "wulf" as a prefix of suffix in their names. So I'm unclear why you reverted my edit. Mass purge of RS on the hippopotamus page[edit]

I'd say I hope you aren't deleting all those RS on account of me, but I know you are. Maybe I should have phrased what I said about those sources differently. My point, or at least the point I was trying to make, is that the hippo page is a featured article even with sources that do not meet the highest possible standard. We don't use evidence on Wikipedia, only sources and common sense, so I realize Sagan's "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" saying is inapt - but I want to say that for Wikipedia, extraordinary claims require extraordinary sources, and ordinary claims only require ordinary sources. I think this is true regardless of whether a page is featured or not, and the fact that the hippo page is featured is evidence of that. All the RS on a featured article don't need to be of the highest possible grade; ordinary RS are fine for ordinary statements.

What I'm trying to say is, I wish you wouldn't delete all those sources. It is my sincere belief that the page is better with those 'low-grade' sources. I was a little afraid this would happen if I brought it up, and sure enough, here we are. I'm not sure if you're deleting all the sources you consider to be of a lower standard than Snopes so that some day you can come back and get rid of the Snopes thing too, or if you just abhor sources like NPR and Toonpedia appearing on a featured biology article. Whatever the case, the page is better with those sources, not worse, and removing them will, ironically, move the whole article further away from being worthy of its featured status. I'm just here for pink hippo milk, so I leave it to you, LittleJerry, but I really do think all RS should be treated according to what they are sources for, not according to some absolute standard that all sources on a featured article must meet.

Anyway, I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I shouldn't have edit warred with you, and I was chagrined when I realized I was edit warring. I'm an idiot, what more can I say? See you around. Joe (talk) 06:57, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, LittleJerry. I am not sure why you deleted the question from my Talk page. (If you no longer need/want my opinion, you could have just left a second message saying so.) Anyway, if you are thinking about using the paper for our "Mandrill" article, it is sufficient to say that scientists have sequenced the mandrill's genome. FAR for Fin whale[edit]

I have nominated Fin whale for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. OnlyFixingProse (talk) 13:32, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, hoping that if could watchlist this article and see if edits like this [2] are appropriate. Thanks. BloatedBun (talk) 13:07, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for heads up. I've actually been planning on creating a spin off article on orca types and move much of the information there. LittleJerry (talk) 16:23, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed you removed my edit from the 'Feeding - Fish' section on the Orca page where I added details regarding two Orcas killing Great White Sharks in South Africa in 2017. I added this example since it was documented in the African Journal of Marine Science, and I believed it served as a good example of Orcas preying on Great White Sharks, targeting their livers, and also disrupting their migration patterns. I am new to editing Wikipedia and was hoping you can provide context as to why my edit was reverted so I can contribute more productively going forward. Thanks in advance! Jadedhippo (talk) 17:26, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it become we already mentioned orcas eating and displacing white sharks and we don't need to detail a specific case. I kept the new source. LittleJerry (talk) 22:55, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that makes sense. Thank you for the insight! Jadedhippo (talk) 00:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi LittleJerry, I'm going to be away this week. I've replied briefly to the latest comment, but the anatomy section certainly needs to be beefed up, partly by moving the details mentioned by the editor - if you can do that without disrupting the sections the mentions are currently in. I think that will require a measure of duplication, i.e. describing the anatomy of each feature, then separately describing the physiology. I'm concerned that the editor wants us to describe standard fish features, but if that's what they'd like then the FAC process basically drives us to giving them that, useful or not. Perhaps you can keep them happy with a bit of additional material, I'm sure they want something to take home from the party. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:10, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Without a subsection heading, you've left the remaining "Electrophysiology" subsection orphaned or unbalanced. What is the non-electrophysiology material, some sort of introduction and context for the electro stuff? That's how you've arranged it! No, it's a subsection at the same level as "Electrophysiology". Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:01, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wolf Population Update[edit]

Hi, I saw you removed some updated population data and sources that I added to the Wolf article. I used federal and state government sources for the updated information, and the links are below (I've used these sources elsewhere):

"As of March 2023, the Northern Rocky Mountains gray wolf population is now distributed across western Montana (1,100 wolves), western Wyoming (311 wolves), Idaho (1,337 wolves), eastern Washington (206 wolves), and Eastern Oregon (175 wolves). There is a small presence in northern California (30 wolves) and northern Colorado (6 wolves)."

https://www.regulations.gov/document/FWS-HQ-ES-2018-0097-107831

https://idfg.idaho.gov/article/idahos-wolf-population-has-dropped-about-13-percent

I understand if you want to cut the length, but I'd like to request re-adding the updated population numbers as the 2015 estimate is outdated.

Thank you Bbreslau (talk) 12:29, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I changed to numbering to 200 so as not to be too specific and date it. Also why did you add the Hebrew reference. I stated "we are not citing random websites. and don't break up the citation flow (Marvin is cited for the text of this entire paragraph". Please stop. LittleJerry (talk) 12:42, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarifying!
With all due respect, this is not a random website; it is an official and reputable Hebrew Bible site with numerous references to scholars and research. I can pull up other sources if you'd like. My goal with this reference is to add a Jewish perspective of wolves, so that the Biblical reference is not exclusively Christian-centric with its discussion of Jesus.
Best regards Bbreslau (talk) 12:49, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is random for this article. Cultural references to wolves in this article are cited in general sources about wolves or wolves in culture. Wolves being the symbol of the tribe does not fit "Fables and literature". You can add to the Wolves in folklore, religion and mythology. This article has enough references. LittleJerry (talk) 12:54, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

my story today

Thank you today for the article "about ladybirds, also known as ladybugs, lady beetles and ladybird beetles. The FA list could use a beetle-related article and these are arguably the most recognizable of all."! - In Germany, they are also called Glückskäfer, beetles of good luck, and the image made me happy because it appeared on my brother's wedding day ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:23, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend of weddings, so also like the spirit ;) - Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:27, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! - No cake yet, but a butterfly and open-air opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for Elephant, introduced (in 2012): "The FA animal list would not be complete without what is arguably the most famous one of them all."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:01, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Today is Debussy's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:13, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This too shall pass. - Ten years ago on 28 August, I heard a symphony, with a heavy heart because of the pending decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX, and not worried about my future here but Andy's. - It passed, and I could write the DYK about calling to dance, not battle, and Andy could write the DYK mentioning about peace and reconciliation, - look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:25, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Joseph Stalin has an edit summary that appears to be inadequate, inaccurate, or inappropriate. The summaries are helpful to people browsing an article's history, so it is important that you use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did. Feel free to use the sandbox to make test edits. "Stop with the nonsense." was uncalled for and unnecessary. They're the same image, the only difference being one is cropped, too tightly in my view. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 21:23, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You did not go to the talk page. One of the reason this image was chosen was because it focuses on the face. We already had a now banned user try changing it without consensus. LittleJerry (talk) 19:18, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You could've explained that in the edit summary. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 20:21, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I apologize. LittleJerry (talk) 21:57, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you have earned this[edit]

The Featured Article Medal
By the authority vested in me by myself it gives me great pleasure to present you with this special, very exclusive award created just for we few, we happy few, this band of brothers, who have shed sweat, tears and probably blood, in order to be able to proudly claim "I too have taken articles to Featured status". Gog the Mild (talk) 00:13, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am a silent reader, but LittleJerry's work have been outstanding lately, esoecially at the articles like Polar Bear and Red Panda. Hoping that Golden Jackal could be maintained like those two. 2001:4455:66A:7800:9464:F02:813E:6232 (talk) 13:04, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

secretarybird[edit]

hello, LittleJerry! i had a quick question regarding this article and the associated blurb. i admittedly am not too clear on the differences between a national emblem and a national coat of arms, but considering that the title of the article on the emblem of sudan is "Emblem of Sudan" rather than "Coat of arms of Sudan", i am worried that we may be inaccurate by referring to it as a coat of arms, both in the blurb and the article lead. (the article body refers to it as an emblem.) would it be more appropriate to state that the bird "appears on the emblem of Sudan and the coat of arms of South Africa" instead?

interestingly, i noticed that the article on the emblem states (without a source) that the emblem "could be considered a national coat of arms", but i don't know if that means that referring to it as a coat of arms is technically correct or technically incorrect. (i also noticed that the blurb was recently edited so that "coats of arms of Sudan" now links to the "coat of arms" article, which seems like an inadvertent error, but am pinging Ravenpuff just to make sure.)

October songs
my story today

Thank you today for South Asian river dolphin, introduced: "South Asian river dolphins aren't as well known or as studied as their Amazonian brethren but they are fascinating and unique in their own right. I've compiled the most important information on these rare animals from the best sources."! - It was a pleasure to review. - My story today is about an amazing woman (also on the Main page, but feel free to check other days as well ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:05, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, LittleJerry. I'm not sure why you deleted the question from my talk page. I could answer it if you want me to. (As an aside, if you no longer need me to answer a question that you asked me on my talk page, I would prefer that you say that on the talk page rather than deleting the question.) Thanks. Koala for 1 January at TFA[edit]

Hi Jerry, I need to schedule something iconic for Australia on 1 January, to commemorate the Federation of Australia. After discarding a few, what I'm left with is Koala as a rerun. It looks to me like it's still in good shape. You and Sasata were the FAC co-noms. I see you haven't listed it for any specific date at TFAP. Does 1 January work for you? - Dank (push to talk) 03:24, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. LittleJerry (talk) 16:15, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Would you consider becoming a New Page Reviewer?[edit]

Hi LittleJerry,

I've recently been looking for editors to invite to join the new page reviewing team, and after reviewing your editing history, I think you would be a good candidate. Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; the new page reviewing team needs help from experienced users like yourself.

Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, most pages are easy to review, and habits are quick to develop). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us. If you choose to apply, you can drop an application over at WP:PERM/NPR. If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message on my talk page or at the reviewer's discussion board.

Cheers, and hope to see you around, ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 17:22, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1 January TFA[edit]

Thank you today for Koala, introduced (in 2013!): "Submitted for your approval, one of the most iconic animals of Australia. I started working on this article months ago and Sasata was nice enough to jump on board and improve its comprehensiveness, sourcing and prose. We now feel it is ready."! - Five years ago, I had the TFA on this day, in fond memory I created today's story for a Happy New Year, while yesterday's was more thoughtful, perhaps. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:07, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Random Website"[edit]

You reverted an edit to the Cultural significance section of the Koala article with the comment "should stick to whats [sic] mentioned in sources about koalas rather than random websites." First, the "cultural significance" section is not about koala biology or even koala culture, but about human culture, as shown by its including mention of, e.g., the shape of the tourist complex at Dadswell's Bridge and the name of a B-side single. Second, Ad Age is not a "random website", but the site of a trade publication founded in 1930; it has its own Wikipedia article. Minturn (talk) 23:28, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There are plenty of references to koalas in culture sourced to the main books we have. We don't need to cherry-pick websites. You can add the reference to the Koala emblems and popular culture. LittleJerry (talk) 02:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Polar bear scheduled for TFA[edit]

This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 27 February 2024. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 27, 2024, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/February 2024. Please keep an eye on that page, as comments regarding the draft blurb may be left there by user:dying, who assists the coordinators by making suggestions on the blurbs, or by others. I also suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from two days before it appears on the Main Page. Thanks and congratulations on your work! Congratulations, and thank you today for Polar bear, introduced: "Here we have another well-known animal, the top predator of the Arctic and icon of climate change. I've put off doing this article for a long time but a couple months ago I began rewriting it. We already have Knut (polar bear) as an FA, and its time for the species itself to take its rightful place on the mammal list. I wish to have this as a TFA for International Polar Bear Day on February 27."! - It worked! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:17, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hunting behavior of gray wolves[edit]

Hello LilttleJerry,

Sorry to be an inconvenience to you but I saw you had edited the page Hunting behavior of gray wolves and specifically added the refrences Mech & Boitani 2003, pp. 119–121 and Heptner & Naumov 1998, pp. 241–242 and I was wondering if you could help me by providing me some more detail on how wolves get lone bison to move.

Thanks,

Sorry. Didn't write that. Just moved it from wolf article . Ask User:William Harris. LittleJerry (talk) 17:23, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
