Bangla WikiMoitree is a collaborative initiative formed to support the expansion and development of Wikimedia projects in the Bengali language. It functions as a network that facilitates thematic and linguistic coordination and mutual collaboration among Wikimedia communities, affiliates, and informal groups related to Bengali language, culture, and heritage.[1][2]

Currently, the network has two affiliate members:

  1. Wikimedia Bangladesh
  2. West Bengal Wikimedians User Group

History

[edit]

In 2023, during a meet-up of Bengali-speaking Wikimedians from Bangladesh and various parts of India at WikiConference India, discussions were held on forming a Wikimedia hub for the Bengali Wikimedia community.[3][4]

Activities

[edit]

At the Wikimania conference held in Singapore in 2023, a project titled "Preserving Bengali Culture and Heritage" was launched to increase the digital representation of topics related to Bengali language, culture, and traditions. Under this project, an annual photography competition called Wiki Loves Bangla has been organized every year since 2024.[5]
