Bholari or Bolhari

[edit]

Are Bholari and Bolhari same settlements in Jamshoro District of Sindh province? (the latter is the only redlink in List of cities in Pakistan, comes from PBS census file) Other articles using the former spelling intitle include PAF Base Bholari (with sources for Bholari) and Bholari railway station (with empty ref section). Pinged a user, Crosji. Thanks for the time. MŠLQr (talk) 06:42, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for flagging this, @MSLQr. You are absolutely right to raise the distinction. Bholari, located in Jamshoro District, is a known settlement with established infrastructure, including a railway station. In contrast, "Bolhari" appears, at least on Google Maps, to be a location in Badin District, near the border with Gujarat, India. However, I wasn't able to find much credible information about this second location, suggesting it may not be an actual settlement in the conventional sense, but perhaps a geographic label or minor locality. Crosji, yes on that same day, I did the "Bolhari" search on the Google Maps and it took me near the border. What I noticed is the latter spelling only found in the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics census file (hope you checked it) and it lists it in Kotri Tehsil under the Jamshoro District. If Bholari has well established infrastructure with a railway station, it must have been a part of the population census. This may be a case of alternative spelling and pronunciation. In the meantime, Umartoor, a user who was already contributing to the list, has changed the spelling in List of cities in Pakistan by population from "Bolhari" to "Bholari" and they added the figures in the article, Bholari. This article needs some help, if anyone is interested. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:01, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone improve the introductory sentences and the table of this list? The list defines the metropolitan area of Pakistan with population 0.5 million or more. However, I think there is no source supporting this in the list. In my view, the 2023 edition of Demographia by Wendell Cox is on urban areas rather than the metropolitan area and it also marks the differences between the both (on pages 3,4,5). Also, there are some issues with reliability of this source noted on WP:RSN archives. See also, a lengthy listing in section at the main article (Metropolitan area#Pakistan) having last city with 0.1 million population. Do we have a source from country's official records or Pakistan Bureau of Statistics which clearly indicates the number of metropolitan areas in the country? I tried to find sources for what the definition/status of a metropolitan area in the country and how many total cities with this status are there, but couldn't find any proper material discussing these in detail. Found this file by The Urban Unit of Punjab, but don't have time to look into it. This file may help. Also, there is a need to update and fix the population figures in the table. Perhaps, some of the figures are from the 2017 census, others from the 2023 census, all under the same column of 2017. For someone who fix this list, also see the Category:Metropolitan areas of Pakistan. Thanks for your time. MŠLQr (talk) 13:47, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Baqir_Siddiqui article

[edit]

It seems that the main author of this article has been blocked for using LLMs. Superficially the article seems to be well referenced, but the name written in urdu is incorrect, so I refrained from blocking the deletion as the article is probably of the same quality. It would be better for someone in this project to write a new article (without using LLMs for writing).
