Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Decrease

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Reason: In October 2017, this page about a beloved British TV presenter was made "EXTENDED CONFIRMED PROTECTION" due to aggressive sock puppetry. I would like to see this page down to semi-protection due to little vandalism over almost eight years. Frankster04 (talk) 21:29, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That's circular reasoning. The fact that there is little vandalism simply means the protection is working as it should. Also, did you follow the instructions at the top of this page and ask the protecting administrator? ~Anachronist (talk) 22:35, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The only way to know if protection is still needed is to see if disruption returns without the protection, so time having passed is a valid reason. The protecting administrator is Favonian. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:10, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: This article about the UK boxer has been extended confirmed protection since a May 2018 spell of block evasion-induced vandalism. I’d like to see this page downgraded to semi-protection due to both little vandalism and his high profile (many high profile celebs' articles are semi-protected). Frankster04 (talk) 21:33, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the instructions at the top. You're supposed to ask the protecting administrator first, but I'll do it here. @Orangemike: what say you? ~Anachronist (talk) 22:34, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For what it is worth, I think this is probably a good candidate to reduce to SP. Dennis Brown - 00:23, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:26, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Of the edits prior to protection, I only see one reverted edit by an auto-confirmed user, so I don't think that extended-confirmed protection was necessary in the first place. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:10, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done, now indef semi-protected. Any changes to duration would be a different discussion. Dennis Brown - 00:06, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: 15 years of protection with little vandalism or disruption and protecting admin is retired. Thepharoah17 (talk) 10:12, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected. Bambifan101 seems inactive. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:10, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Only 56 transclusions. Not enough for template protection. 2A0E:1D47:9085:D200:B760:276F:5BA6:1929 (talk) 10:31, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:10, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: No need for move protection. Thepharoah17 (talk) 02:23, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
