Mysterious, confusing page[edit]

 – --Bsherr (talk) 19:02, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This article is -- to this non-legalistic Wikipedia Journeyman Editor -- very indecipherable. I was sent to this page when I clicked on a link from another page, which said it linked to "Template:No personal summaries" (which redirects to this article).

Unfortunately, this page does not really explain what this template is for, where it goes, or how to use it. There's a lot of technical mumbo-jumbo for highly-knowledgeable Wiki-techs, but not a lot for the content-focused Wikipedian.

An opening paragraph, explaining the whole purpose and concept of the template, would be wise, as well as paragraphs explaining how and where a Wikipedia editor is supposed to integrate this template into Wikipedia material. I cannot tell if I'm supposed to put it in an article, or its Talk page, or what (nor where). Maybe I'm reading it poorly, but it seems too much like a bunch of Wikipedia-insider jargon-jibberish to me.

Some clarification, please? ~ Penlite (talk) 17:14, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I'll be able to help address your concerns, but I was hoping you could shed some more light on the chain of events that led you to post here. What link did you click on? The "no personal summaries" template was redirected to "no personal attacks" back in early 2019 from the looks of things.
This page is a Talk page, while the main Template index page is just that, an index of user warning templates, so when you say "the template", I'm not sure which template you're referring to.
I think it may help us to assist you if you can provide us with more information as to what brought you here and what your objective is. Thanks! DonIago (talk) 18:05, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Penlite: Did you link from Wikipedia:Compliment before criticism? (That looks like the only substantive page that would have a link to that redirect.) Template:No personal summaries was a former user warning template that was merged into the Template:uw-npaX series of templates, which are used to warn users against incivility. You ended up here because this is the subject page for user warning templates. It looks like the link in that essay was of questionable relevance to begin with and, especially now, the essay should be improved. If you can confirm I have this right, I would propose moving this discussion to the talk page for the essay, so that those interested in improving the essay can be made aware. --Bsherr (talk) 15:54, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bsherr and Doniago: Thanks for investigating this. Though I've done a zillion things since my original post, and memory fades quick, I'm certain I visited the page "Wikipedia:Compliment before criticism," and that's quite possibly where I saw the "Template:No personal summaries" link (which I'm sure I clicked on), and got redirected to the weird gobbledygook page that made no sense to my tired, feeble mind.

@Penlite: Okay, so now we're in the right place. I would recommend to an interested editor rewriting that sentence to, at the very least, change the link to an appropriate project page, but probably even better, to make it more concise, as I don't think the examples are especially germane to the point. --Bsherr (talk) 19:02, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
