Merger discussion for Negawatt market[edit]

An article that you have been involved in editing—Negawatt market—has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. Chidgk1 (talk) 17:26, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Need your thoughts on whether this should be a separate topic from Noise cancellation or Adaptive filtering. It appears to be someone's research material. Please help discuss at Draft:Adaptive noise cancelling#Notability for this. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 18:51, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Active noise control almost always involves adaptation. No need for a separate article. Constant314 (talk) 19:37, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This is the same as Active noise control. The author should be directed to improve the existing article. I've read the explanation provided by the author attempting to present a distinction between the two, however I'm unconvinced. It appears that different groups of researchers use each phrase to refer to the same concept. SailingInABathTub ~~🛁~~ 21:27, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Good article reassessment for Electricity[edit]

Electricity has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Onegreatjoke (talk) 00:17, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This is still ongoing. Would anyone like to poke at it and maybe bring it to a successful conclusion? A few {{citation needed}} tags need resolving. XOR'easter (talk) 00:26, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Project-independent quality assessments[edit]

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. There is a new discussion at Talk:Heaviside condition#Is the Heaviside condition the Zeno's paradox of transmission lines? in which you may wish to participate. Constant314 (talk) 15:54, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Synchronous generator?[edit]

Currently we have a large amount of articles describing the electrical machines:

Electric machine. Typically this is a generic name for rotating machinery, generators and motors, somehow we have a section on Electric machine#Transformer there.

  • Dynamo
  • Alternator. This term lumps together magneto, synchronous and asynchronous generators

The few minor issues are marked above. The missing elephant in this zoo is a lack of an article on synchronous generators, arguably the most important variety. Currently, the information is a part of the Alternator, which makes for a confusing name and thus is hard to find/link to (for example, until today the redirect Synchronous generator pointed to Synchronization (alternating current), which contains next to zero information on the actual generators). Permanent magnet asynchronous generator does not appear to be covered anywhere. Synchronous machine is a redirect to Synchronous motor, even though it usually used to describe a generator.

My suggestions:

  1. Split Synchronous generator from Alternator. Leave alternator to describe a generic AC generator (this is currently a redirect). This is a big change, and I am hereby looking for opinions.
  2. Fix other problems above by removing paragraphs. providing links and clarifications.
  3. Expand the template {{Electric machines}} along the lines of the list above.

Triboelectric effect[edit]

I have rewritten the Triboelectric effect page so it is fairly balanced, trying to:

  • Represent the (many) conflicting views
  • Avoid most of the unscience out there on this topic
  • Do a decent job of referencing, including good older papers/books not just new ones

I know a fair amount about the topic, but feedback is always useful. (I think it may need a few more Figures.) I think the topic is mainly physics, so I have posted on the WT:PHY, but there may be members of this group who have come across it at work and would have useful input. Add comments here, or on my talk page. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:08, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

FYI: Articles for deletion/Conduction zone - unique superconductivity theory[edit]

FYI, please see:

From the article: "The term conduction zone was introduced in the 'Unified Theory of Low and High-Temperature Superconductivity.'"

Feel free to provide your inputs as to what we should do with this article.
