Bruno Cardoso (born 17 May 1978), known professionally as Xinobi, is a Portuguese DJ and record producer from Portugal. He is a founding member of the music label Discotexas.
Biography
[edit]Bruno Cardoso was born in Lisbon on 17 May 1978. Xinobi is the stage name of the Portuguese DJ, music producer, and musician. He is the co-founder of the independent label Discotexas alongside Moullinex.[1]
He has released three full-length albums, including On The Quiet (2017), which explored themes of identity, subculture, and socially conscious dance music. His catalog spans releases on labels such as Discotexas, Ministry of Sound, Nervous Records, Work It Baby and Deutsche Grammophon.[2][3] As a remixer, Xinobi has worked on tracks by artists including Nicolas Jaar, Toro Y Moi, John Grant and Riva Starr, as well as frequent collaborations with Moullinex, Gisela João, GPU Panic.[1][2]
Xinobi continues to perform internationally and release original work across EPs, singles, and remixes.[1] Notable collaborations include Fado Para Esta Noite (2019) with fado singer Gisela João, bridging traditional Portuguese music and electronic production.[4]
Musical style
[edit]Xinobi is part of a wave of artists influenced by the early 2000s music-blog scene and DIY culture, he transitioned from punk rock and skateboarding roots into electronic and house music, a trajectory reflected in much of his work.[1][5] His style blends house, disco, and electronic textures with melodic and arrangement-focused songwriting inspired by Daft Punk, The Prodigy and Etienne de Crecy.[6][7][8]
