Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species is the first of the Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion packs (The others are Zoo Tycoon 2: African Adventure and Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania). It gives the player 20 new endangered animals such as the Caribou and the Koala, Sky Trams, Jeep Rides, Elevated Path and some new campaigns.
Graphical Enhancements
Endangered Species introduces some much needed graphics updates and patches. Playes can make the water in Zoo Tycoon 2 reflective by setting the water detail to "very high". The expansion also introduces a new feature called 'variant skins', i.e., not all animals of the same species look exactly the same. For example, when adopting a Bengal tiger, the player might get a different texture, such as a white tiger. Trees, food and all of the 2D objects in the original game have been updated to be 3D.
New Tour Possibilities
With the addition of this expansion pack, the player can create a Jeep Wrangler or Commander tour through the zoo's exhibits. The new sky tram routes allow the guests to get a bird's eye view of the animals, without making them disturbed. Elevated paths allow visitors to walk right above the exhibits, giving a very good view of the animals, and even allow food courts to be built above enclosures. Both the elevated paths and sky trams will give the guests a good view of the animals, while still keeping their privacy levels content.
Animals
Endangered Species has 20 brand new animals from around the globe. The expansion focuses on endangered animals like the orangutan and giant sable antelope. Zoo Tycoon 2's first expansion, Endangered Species updates some of the animal behaviors. For example, some more simple herding behaviors were added (more advanced herding and pack behavior came out in Zoo Tycoon 2: African Adventure) and animals can no longer breed with their siblings and parents. The animal models and skins are also more realistic than the animals from the original game. The animals are:

The koalas eat eucalyptus, a new food in the game and other animals, such as crested gibbons and American bison, eat berries.

New Zoo possibilites
The Zoo guests can now see the rarest animal species in the world, can take a Jeep or Sky tram safari and they can also watch animals from higher decks like elevated paths. They could also toss a coin in a fountains, and pay for face painting about endangered species. The Spanish Lynx, Bengal Tiger, Moose, Common Zebra, American Bison ... aren't everytime the same they are more bright/dark/with bold spots or different color like animal pictures in adoption panel when are adopted. Now player 's Zoo can be Endangered Species themed, jeep safaris can go trought decorated tour entrance, by completing new Scenarios and Challenges. There are not be just exotic animals, but also exotic plants like golden barrel cactus or alpine sea holly and trees like bur oak or durian tree. To make a five star jeep safari tour or five star sky tram tour, are there tour objects like snow machines in tundra and boreal exhibits or volcanos in alpine exhibits.

If you put buildings on an elevated path over a regular path such as a food stand, people will start walking under the place where the stand is and get frustrated because they think they have no way to get up there even though there may be a ramp right in front of them.
However, for those who can suceed in avoiding all bugs, there are some very impressive results.
Trivia
- Endangered Species includes many ways to get to the animals without disturbing them. These include, Jeep tours, sky trams and elavated path.
- Jeep tours were originally included in Endangered Species, but are available in African Adventure too.
- Markhor in the game can climb trees.
