I am wondering of this site could be considered an internet phenomena or not. I know it is rather popular and extremely humorous. It features a guy who holds a weekly contest offering $100 via PayPal to the individual who leaves him he best Drunk dialing message on his voicemail.

I did not add this site to this article yet for fear that people would think I am self-promoting. I have no affiliation with the site and can’t find any direct marketing used to purchase products. I just think it is very funny and well known around my area.

I look forward to some objective input before I add, or do not add this site to the list. Take a look for yourself, you be the judge…

Project News

Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.

New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.

Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Wikipedia where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. Assessment Department (Shortcut: WP:IN1): Are you one of those gnomes?? Or do you want to take some time off some brain-frying active editing on Wikipedia?? Then Department of Assessment within the WikiProject India will be your forte. The department consists of a group of wikipedians who work on rating the India related articles to check if they are worthy enough to be included in the CD (or print) version of Wikipedia. The rating process gains more significance as we try to sort out which articles and which topics need more attention to balance the India related systemic bias within wikipedia. As a thumb rule, anyone can rate any article based on the related criteria, within the Stub/Start/B/A levels. However, ratings for Good Article Status and Featured Article status go through the nomination processes. How to?: The "how to" part of assessment is very simple. Just head on to the talk page of any India related page and you'll find the {{WP India}} template. Simply classify the article based on the content and the criteria mentioned here. You can find the detailed instructions here. If you think it may qualify for GA/FA status, first consider submitting the article for peer review.

Amazing

I did not know that Buddhism's history in it's original land now redirects to it's decline!

One more thing, the decline article is so poorly sourced that most of it will have to go, all that will be left will roughly equal a section. We can have Buddha's birth, Ashoka, Ashoka's messengers and other Sharamanas taking Buddhism to China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Siam etc. the decline, revival and the works in the new section. Condensing the decline part will not be a problem.

I think we should rename and shift content. I will need a couple of days to come up with a history of Buddhism in India article since I'm busy till tommorow. I will experiment in my sandbox, please feel free to use it.

One article

The birth of Siddhartha gautama, his travels, the Sangha, emperor Ashoka, Bodhidharma, Bodhiruci, Buddhabhadra (Batuo), Yogacara in Gandhara, Thousands of Indian monks in China for translation of Buddhist works, Shramanas taking Buddhism's message to foreign lands, Indian influence on East Asain culture (Sun Wukong and Guan Yin, which were influenced by Hanumana and Avalokiteshvara respectively and Pagodas influenced by Buddhist Stupas), the non-conversion principles of Hinduism in hindu kingdoms abroad which lead to ready acceptance of Buddhism by the natives who took to Indian culture but could not convert to it's religion, the invasions, decline, Ambedekar's version and the works need to be put in chronologically and with proper sources.

The articles in their present form are very oddly written and very poorly sourced. This is in addition to them claiming to address a topic and addressing only one aspect of it while not even mentioning the others. The articles also are based on hearsay. This seems very odd, some of the editors involved in this are experienced Wikipedians who could at least contribute to links, language and grammer.

I'll get to unifying the articles and seeing to it that they remain unified in a few hours. Surprisingly enough, both History and this article were created by Nat Krause. I'm surprised, I have talked to him before and I could only see genuine compassion in what he did.

History of Buddhism in India

Kindly take a look. I created the article in a hurry and much more needs to be added in , mythological and architectural influences in particular, which I will add in a bit. If you could possibly check the article and make corrections (in language in particular, my tone is not enclyclopedic) I'd appreciate it a great deal.

I'll work on a complete rewrite of the "Decline" article (found a lot of sources) ASAP. Given the amount of information available on the decline article, I'm having second thoughts about unifying it.

'Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism all share some traits in common with Hinduism (which is sometimes specifically called Orthodox Hinduism when contrasted with its associated, but non-Vedic faiths)' This is what is on the page, I realize the problem, and I only wanted to avoid acrimonious debates later as has happened in the past. The inference of the line is that buddhism, jainism, and sikhism are somehow new non-vedic strains of Hinduism as contrasted with the orthodox vedic hinduism. I think this representation would be more offensive to these people. When I mentioned 'Hindus do not consider buddhism, jainism, and sikhism (which originated in India) as different from them, though the adherents of these faiths may differ in this respect.', it was meant to show that the buddhists, jains, and sikhs, do not agree with the hindu view and do not consider their religions as part of hinduism, whatever the hindus may think. But I will accept the old representation, if people think that it is less problematic. I have however, always maintained that there is no need to mention non-hindu religions or sects, or their usage terms (like salvation or icons) on the hinduism page. Hi DaGizza. I won't have the time to copyedit the article as it is time consuming for me. Instead, I suggest you post a request on Wikiproject cricket where hopefully ALoan & team can copyedit the article. However, if you're looking to get this article featured, I can critique it for inconsistencies, suggestions and content; which at the moment quite a bit can be done. Let me know.

The map should be pretty simple to create, but I don't like pngs anymore, and I am in negotiations with user:canuckguy over his svg world map. Once that is done, it would give the article the cutting edge with hi-quality graphics. You would have to wait for the weekend though. PS an SVG rendering of the 2007 world cup logo is available.

Hinduism

Gizza, Were you referring to a citation for the first sentence or the second in the following text ?

Hinduism is sometimes referred to as a polytheistic religion, but that is not true for all its schools of thought whose beliefs range from polytheism to monotheism, or even monism and atheism. For instance, Advaita Vedanta holds that there is One God, who however may appear to humans in multiple forms.

In my view:

We don't need to provide a reference for the first sentence since the idea has been explained in detail (and with citations) in subsequent sections of the main article, as well as in wiki-linked articles on monism and Atheism in Hinduism.
The Swami Bhaskarananda reference should still hold for the second sentence, since the only change from the previous version is assigning the stated idea to the Advaita Vedanta school rather than "mainstream Hinduism", which some editors found objectionable.

All Indian Languages using wikipedians,

Further promotion of Indic language wikipedias needs mass media publicity like Print,Radio,telvision , aproaching in academic Institutions.

Also if possible a level of field support from network engineers in India for presentation and training in usage of Indian Languages and wikipedia can be a added boon.

May I call on all indic language wikipedia users,to put our hands together to design special barnstars or suggest one which can be awarded to all those who will support our noble cause with actual field support among Indian education institutions and Indian mass media or actual field 'network'help to users.

I belive we should award barnstars to such users who can support the cause through online publicity like blogs , groups etc. also.

Re:List of famous Old Sydneians

Hey Girik. Things have been great over the past month or so. It's certainly a nervous and exciting time but one that you should look forward to after all the unneccessary stress that the HSC is. I got my marks today and although they didn't appear to be great (I'll only appear in the paper twice which is a bit of a farce considering my 79 for 4 Unit maths equates to about a 92 for 3 Unit maths after UAC scaling, along with a few other things I'm annoyed about). I then put them into a UAI converter and realised that my school aggregate mark for the trials was a joke - and I was probably about 30 or 40 places higher than what the school said I was. In the end all that worry about getting into the course I wanted to seems silly, as I will hopefully (although I still haven't got the official UAI yet) get in. I'm actually pretty shocked by the events that have occurred over the past week or so about one of your classmates. The news that I received this afternoon was quite distressing really. Not too sure what to say at the moment... With regards to the Old Sydneians article, I still haven't finished referencing the politics section but I've done as much as I can with everything else. I like what you've done too, and hopefully I'll start unredlinking those pages when I find the time to put some information on about them.
