Gustav III(January 13, 1746 - March 16, 1792) was king of Sweden and is known for putting more efforts into theater than war. He was shot at a masquerade at Stockholm Royal Castle on March 18, 1792, but lived until March 29, 1792). The assassination became the basis of Giuseppe Verdi's 1859 opera Un Ballo in Maschera.
