Template:Mile (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
There are only two pages that use this template. R'son-W 22:32, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Weak Keep I can see this being useful. EVula 22:51, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Depends. If this template is taking up anything (i.e. space, memory) that could be used in a better way, then Delete. If not, then Keep. Random the Scrambled 23:03, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Keep - Most of the Category:Conversion templates like this one are set up to be subst'd... hence lack of links need not mean lack of use. --CBDunkerson 23:04, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Comment This template can be OK if it is always subst'ed and editors do a sanity check afterwards regarding fake precision. Something like "approximately 30 mi (48.28 km)" looks a bit stupid. I'm not so certain all users will do this sanity check, though. Kusma (討論) 23:23, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Delete useless. Freddie 00:32, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Delete. The only way I could see this being useful is if it were a function to convert miles to kilometres, or vice-versa. However, since it is only one measurement, it is useless. This is simple information that, if needed, can be quite easily found and retyped. LINUXERIST@ 01:07, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- It is a function to convert miles to kilometers. Look: you type {{mile|2}} you get Template:Mile. You type {{mile|5}} you get Template:Mile. Keep (but it should always be subst'ed). Angr (talk) 09:40, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Speedy delete per Linuxerist. Is this template really necessary? --Coredesat 02:22, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Keep and expand, useful for improving readability for users who are familiar with only one system of measurement. Rename to "Template:Distance" and expand its functionality, so that it can accept a "miles" parameter and display the kilometer value in parentheses for articles about U.S. topics, or accept a "kilometers" parameter and display the kilometer value in parentheses for articles relating to countries primarily using metric units. This is basically the same approach we take toward spelling conventions. — Jun. 6, '06 [02:39] <freak|talk>
- Something like what you suggest above already exists. See {{conv-dist}}. Converts to/from common units between picometers and parsecs... including miles and kilometres of course. --CBDunkerson 10:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Delete because redundant with {{conv-dist}}--michael180 16:13, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong keep, useful template, few links are because of substs. --Rory096 19:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Speedy keep per Rory et al - look at the what links here link for mile [1] - basically all of those links are from substitutions of this template BigDT 01:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong keep, very useful and a really interesting use of a template (I hadn't come across these "calculator" templates before). Slowmover 15:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong keep very useful --larsinio (poke)(prod) 17:13, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong keep Useful conversion template --Jeames 20:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Keep per Angr Adaobi (t c) 03:11, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Keep per Rory, BigDT, et al. —MJCdetroit 16:58, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Comment:
- Keep for functionality, but if there's a considerably better template, that should be used instead. Also, some people do rely on just one measurement unit and lack understanding of any that are foreign to them. Another argument in support is because of style, where "four miles" sounds better than "six point four kilometres".
- Delete, because there already is an established SI system used in most countries. Also, mile may sound ambiguous, as it may stand for nautical mile and many other miles that are different by countries and cultures (mostly not in use anymore in this context), while kilometer is a uniform measure.
- If it gets deleted, this template should be replaced with such text: "Template [name] has been voted for deletion (or has been deleted), replace with [better template]" with an appropriate reference to the better template. If there's a possibility that many people may dislike the new template post-deletion, option should be given to reinstate the template. I'm too confused as to which vote should I give or which is better. -Mardus 05:43, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

- Weak Delete How likely is that third game? Its a red link now, but if there is sufficient evidence that it will come to fruition, I'd change my vote to Keep. EVula 19:11, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
