Man of the Year is an annual issue of Time Magazine that featues a profile on the man, woman, couple, group, idea, place, or machine that has "for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year."
The title is sometimes mistakenly assumed to be an honor. There was a massive public backlash after Time named Ayatollah Khomeini Man of the Year in 1979.
In 1999 the title was changed to "Person of the Year" to be more politically correct.
