Before making an edit request

Users should bear in mind that, per Wikipedia:Edit requests (which is not one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, but a supplemental information page), consensus should be obtained before requesting changes that are likely to be controversial. Following Sushant Singh Rajput's death on 14 June 2020, his Wikipedia page has been continuously controversial. Since its creation on 29 July 2020, this subarticle too has been continuously controversial. Thus any requested change relating to his death is likely to be controversial. There are ongoing discussions on this talk page striving to reach consensus on the most arguable issues. Users are encouraged to contribute to those discussions where appropriate to help achieve consensus, in lieu of making edit requests that are likely to be rejected. Development at Hindi Wikipedia

Edit warring over the cause of Sushant Singh Rajput's death has finally—four months after the fact—reached his page at Hindi Wikipedia. Over the past 24 hours, the infobox cause of death parameter has fluctuated between "murder" and ongoing investigation, with corresponding changes elsewhere in the bio. To support this, there is presently an incomplete inline citation reading <ref name="Rebuplic TV ">, which produces a display error. Nevertheless, this development has created quite a stir on Twitter, and is likely to reverberate at English Wikipedia as well. NedFausa (talk) 17:42, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

archives

Hm...I added {{Archives}} but it didn't create the links. Anyone know how to fix that? —valereee (talk) 11:46, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Valereee, Talk:Death_of_Sushant_Singh_Rajput/Archive_1 doesn't exist, which is probably why none of the templates (incl the talk header) can detect that there's archive pages there. Are there any archives to this page currently, in a different location? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 12:17, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ProcrastinatingReader, hm...maybe I just assumed that by this time, there'd been some archives? —valereee (talk) 12:28, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
hm...I archived the oldest post, and it doesn't seem to have showed up in the archives. Clearly I've broken something. :D —valereee (talk) 12:31, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
...and nothing is showing up in 'what links here' either. Wonder where the heck it went? —valereee (talk) 12:33, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Valereee, ah. The issue is this: "| archive = Talk:Sushant Singh Rajput/Archive %(counter)d". This page is archiving to the archives of Talk:Sushant Singh Rajput. Not sure if that was intentioned by whoever setup archiving here, or if it's just a copy-slip. I'll fix the {{archives}} on this page to point to the archives of that page in the interim, but it's impossible to know whether a particular archived conversation is of this page, or that page. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 12:37, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It went here btw: Talk:Sushant_Singh_Rajput/Archive_1#removal_of_good_faith_tagging. To archive 1 (!), on a page with 3 archive pages. The archiving setup on this page is confusing bots/scripts. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 12:40, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ProcrastinatingReader, hm, I wonder why that decision was made? That seems very unusual and not very helpful. I wonder if someone just copied the banners etc. from that page and made a mistake? —valereee (talk) 12:42, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Valereee, I think that is likely. The good news is, seems like no discussions on this page have been archived yet according to history. So, it's a good time to change the archive target if we want to do that. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 12:43, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
By all means, if you know how, do it! If not I'll have a go at figuring it out. Let me see if I can simply undo the archiving first, I think it may not be as simple as reverting... —valereee (talk) 12:45, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I think I've reversed the archiving -- undid it here and at the archives page. —valereee (talk) 12:48, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
...and, no, it's not as simple as just adding 'Death of' before the target lol... —valereee (talk) 12:50, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Believe I've got the archives fixed. Any new ones (by bot or script) should go to the correct place. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 12:51, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And it works! :D —valereee (talk) 12:52, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Valereee and ProcrastinatingReader: Mea culpa. Mea máxima culpa. I am to blame. As you surmised, I copied the archive code from Talk:Sushant Singh Rajput and stupidly neglected to change the target page. Please forgive me for causing this confusion, and thank you both for sorting it out. NedFausa (talk) 03:48, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NedFausa, no worries, it looks like we noticed before anything had actually archived, so there wasn't even a mess to sort out! —valereee (talk) 09:31, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Volteer1 (talk) 16:14, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Volteer1 I would assume that @Naaperu wanted us to bold the subject, as is usually done in the lead of WP articles. I've done so; I suspect it was just an oversight, as there doesn't seem to have been previous discussion.
FFR, sometimes just giving it a bit of thought can help figure out what a newbie is asking, and in general it's best not to answer a brand-spanking new edit request from a brand-spanking new editor if you can't figure it out, as someone who comes along a few minutes later to take a look might go, "Oh, I see what they're getting at." There's no mad rush to get edit requests answered in under 10 minutes, especially if you don't know what the peson was asking for. —valereee (talk) 17:17, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
