Really Simple Syndication is a member group of the RSS family for web syndication. The specification was adapted from Netscape's RSS 0.9 and is maintained by Dave Winer. The commonly found versions of RSS are 0.9x and 0.2x. Any RSS 0.9x is a valid RSS 2.x document, but not verse vesa. Note that RSS 1.0 is an almost unrelated standard defined by W3C.

The status of RSS as of April 2004 is version 2.0.1.
