Augury (band)
Augury is a Montreal based Progressive Death Metal band founded in late 2001 by Mathieu Marcotte (ex-Spasme) on guitar. He was soon to be joined by bassist Dominic "Forest" Lapointe (Atheretic, B.A.R.F., Quo Vadis) and soprano vocalist Arianne Fleury. In February 2002, vocalist/guitarist and longtime friend Patrick Loisel (Foreshadow) was kicked out of Kralizec for musical differences and joined gladly since he and Marcotte always expressed the wish to play together since they met in 1997.
Later that year, former Adenine drummer Mathieux Groulx joined Augury but quickly lost interest in their music, earning a living as session player in more mainstream forms of music. However, he helped the band with their first live appearance in November 2002 before leaving for good.
In March 2003, drummer Étienne Gallo (ex-Disembarkation) was introduced to Augury by Steven Henry of Neuraxis, and became the band's official drummer. The band took the rest of the year to finish songwriting and started recording their debut album in November. The whole process streched until the summer 2004 and Concealed was released in the fall. The album didn't fail to draw attention and praise all over the underground. However, due to Patrick's commitment as a teacher, Augury had to wait the next summer to start serious touring across Canada. In the meantime, soprano vocalist Arianne Fleury was fired over personnal differences and the remainding members carry on as a foursome, relying on guest female vocalist whenever available. Roxanna Constantin (Quo Vadis) did the first canadian tour, Gabrielle "Diva" Borgia sang a few show with the band in the following autumn. Leïlindel from Unexpect sang on the 2006 canadian tour and all subsequent public appearances she could attends. The rest of the shows were performed with Loisel as only vocalist.
In May 2006, drummer Étienne Gallo left Augury for personnal reasons. He concentrated on different types of metal with Negativa while his former outfit replaced him with Philippe Cousineau (Mesmerism, Open Wounds). However, exacly one year latter, Étienne seemingly expressed the wish to rejoin Augury again. The band is currently writing its second album.
