Mogambo
Mogambo is a 1953 film directed by John Ford and featuring Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, and Grace Kelly, which depicts the violent story of an illicit love affair against the background of a colorful big game safari in Africa.
Mogambo was adapted by John Lee Mahin from the play by Wilson Collison. Directed by John Ford, the film presents Clark Gable as big game trapping company owner Victor Marswell, Ava Gardner as Eloise Y. 'Honey Bear' Kelly, and Grace Kelly and Donald Sinden as Mr. Donald Nordley and Mrs. Linda Nordley. Filmed on location in Okalataka, Congo; Mount Kenya and Thika, Kenya; Kagera River, Tanzania; Isoila, Uganda; and at the MGM British Studios, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, England, UK. The music is all done by local native tribes (except for Gardner accompanied by player piano), unusual for Hollywood.
Mogambo is a lavish remake of the classic film Red Dust (1932). Both movies featured Clark Gable, while Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly played the rivals for his affections. The film was directed by Victor Fleming.
Grace Kelly won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress (1954), and the film was nominated for two Oscar's, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Ava Gardner), and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Grace Kelly). The film was also nominated for a BAFTA Film Award (Best Film from any Source USA).
