Early life and education

[edit]

Amanda Louise Matta was born on Monday, January 30, 1995, to Martin Timothy Matta and Jennifer Louise Matta (née Bretz). Her parents were engaged in January 1992, and planned to marry in 1994.[1] Her mother Jennifer, was a graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School, and Elizabethtown College. Her father graduated from Central Dauphin High School, and attended Harrisburg Area Community College.[2] They married on Saturday, September 17, 1994, in Holy Name of Jesus Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Martin passed away on March 10, 1996, of natural causes at the age of 23-years old.[3] Jennifer remarried in 1998 to Alphonse C. Miller [4] at St. Catherine Laboure Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where Amanda served as their flower girl.[5] Growing up she would ride horses, bake chocolate chip cookies, and watch The Big Bang Theory.[6]

Matta graduated from Elizabethtown Area High School on Thursday, July 6, 2013,[4] with commencement being held at Lancaster County Bible Church.[7] Matta began attending Juniata College in August 2013, and made the Dean's list her first semester.[8] Her academic excellence continued at Juniata college, and she made Dean's list again in Spring 2014,[4] Fall 2014,[9] and Spring 2015.[10]

She graduated from Juniata College with a degree in Art History, and Drexel University in Museum Leadership.

Career

[edit]

Matta began publishing innocuous videos of her cat to the social media application TikTok in February 2020.[11] On March 7, 2021, she published her first royal video in reaction to the People article "Meghan Markle Says There Were 'Conversations' About 'How Dark' Archie's Skin Color Would Be."[12] Matta's video was set to the lyrics, "I think I'm gonna call him out, I think he did it, but I just can't prove it," from the Taylor Swift song No Body, No Crime, while showing a picture of William, Prince of Wales.[13] "It was a complete accident but my views and follower count grew almost immediately," Matta said. "My first video got almost three million views, and then I jumped to 10,000 followers and it continued to grow from there."[14] She followed the video up on March 9, explaining her reasonings for thinking it was Prince William, and not King Charles III who made the comments about Archie's skin. Her second video garnered 4.7M views.[15]

It wasn't until August 2021, with the discussion of Princess Michael of Kent using her husband's name, when news articles began citing Matta as a source.[16] As Matta's TikTok account grew, so did the number of news sources utilizing Matta's insight.[17]

In February 2022, Business Insider ran an article going over one of Matta's TikTok videos corroborating each point with addition resources.[18] Later that May, Matta was highlighted by British newspaper The Guardian as one of, "a new generation of royal TikTokers who are gaining hundreds of thousands of followers on the app, highlighting the appetite online for updates on and analysis of the British monarchy."[19]

After Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, Matta was quoted by BBC how Americans view the monarchy. "I think people are going to continue to be fascinated with the Royal Family," she said. "King Charles and Prince William have very big shoes to fill - no one will ever be the Queen again."[20]

On May 12, 2023, Matta sat down with Bridgerton author Julia Quinn at a paid event, to discuss Quinn's newest novel which detailed the relationship and romance between Queen Charlotte and King George III.[21] In July, Matta highlighted how Catherine, Princess of Wales had apparently taken fashion inspiration from that summer's biggest film, Barbie.[22] In September, Matta highlighted in a video the double standard between Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Catherine, Princess of Wales in the media.[23][24]

In 2024, when the Federal government of the United States was discussing a TikTok ban, Matta was interviewed to weigh in.[25]

When King Charles III visited Canada in May 2025, Matta was consulted by BBC during their live coverage of the speech to highlight Charles' use of soft power in his dressing.[26]
