Early Years

[edit]

Sheehan was the son of Arthur and Gladys Sheehan. He attended Galileo High School where he played baseball with the Galileo Lions, winning the All-City Championships in '41, '42, and '43 with an Earned Run Average of 1.3.[3][4]

[edit]

He was drafted during World War II and it was reported that he would service in the Coast Guard until he requested being in the Air Force.[5] Sheehan was a Waist Gunner and eventually got promoted to Staff Sergeant. It was September 28, 1944 that his aircraft exploded. His body wasn't found, but he was declared dead on November 2, 1944 and was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart, Air Medal, and Oak Leaf Cluster.[6] He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Galileo Academy of Science and Technology in 1987 and the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in 2025.[7]
