Baand is an upcoming Kashmiri-language feature film directed by Ali Emran and produced by Yaqout Mushtaq under the banner of Hot Ice. Scheduled for release in the first week of August 2025, the film is distributed by Chinaar Mediaworks. It pays homage to the traditional Kashmiri folk theatre form Baand-e-Pather and explores themes of cultural heritage, generational transition, and artistic survival in the modern world.
Synopsis
[edit]Set in a Kashmiri village navigating the edge of modernization, Baand follows the emotional and artistic journey of Gani Bhagat, a devoted Baand artist, and his son Akhtar. Gani has dedicated his life to preserving the folk theatre tradition, while Akhtar struggles to find his own identity—torn between following in his father’s footsteps or embracing a different future. Through music, memory, and performance, the film explores how art and identity evolve through generations.

According to Greater Kashmir,[1][2][3] the poster was unveiled in mid-2025, generating anticipation within local media circles. The film highlights the endangered cultural practice of Baand-e-Pather, often regarded as the soul of Kashmir’s theatrical identity.
Release and Reception

The film's trailer was also released on YouTube and has drawn interest from both Kashmiri audiences and those interested in regional cinema.
