Reception

[edit]

Buttwhistle received praise from select independent reviewers for its offbeat tone and sharp dialogue.

Richard Propes of *The Independent Critic* described the film as "an almost endlessly entertaining and thought-provoking film," highlighting Trevor Morgan's performance as Ogden Confer and the chemistry among the cast.[4]

The site *366 Weird Movies* noted the film's "legitimately weird" tone and its blend of slacker drama with absurdist humor, acknowledging its unique stylistic choices and unconventional narrative.[5]

Geoff Berkshire of Variety gave the film a negative review and wrote that it "actually attempts to be an emotionally resonant relationship tale, but lives down to its title by delivering nothing but inane comedy and insufferable drama."[2]

Justin Lowe of The Hollywood Reporter also gave the film a negative review and wrote that it "proves so cryptically scripted and dramatically under-powered that genre characterizations almost fail to do it justice."[3]
