Dogelon Mars (ELON)[1] (ticker symbol ELON) is a dog-themed meme cryptocurrency token built on the Ethereum and Polygon blockchains. Launched in April 2021, the token draws inspiration from earlier meme coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu, and notably references Elon Musk and the theme of Mars colonization.

Introduction

[edit]

Dogelon Mars is an ERC‑20 token that operates across multiple chains—including Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, and Cronos—intended for trading and holding as a meme coin. The token's playful branding combines elements of Dogecoin, Elon Musk fandom, and interplanetary aspirations, encapsulated in its name and narrative.[2]

History

[edit]

Launch

[edit]

Dogelon Mars was launched in April 2021 on the Ethereum network with a total supply of 1 quadrillion ELON tokens (10^15).[3]

Token Distribution and Burn Mechanism

[edit]

Half the total supply (500 trillion ELON) was locked in a Uniswap liquidity pool; the other half was sent to Ethereum co‑founder Vitalik Buterin, who did not retain them. Instead, he redistributed them by either donating to charitable causes or burning them, thus reducing the circulating supply.[4]

Charitable Contributions

[edit]

Vitalik Buterin donated the majority of his ELON tokens to entities such as the Methuselah Foundation, a life-extension nonprofit. This action highlighted a philanthropic dimension of the project.[5]

Community & Narrative Development

[edit]

Dogelon Mars built a strong community presence, supported by comic-style storytelling around a character named Dogelon. The narrative envisions adventures through space and eventual colonization of Mars, aligning the token’s ethos with the “to the moon/Mars” meme culture.

Ecosystem Expansion

[edit]

A staking initiative featuring “xELON” was proposed for governance and ecosystem development, though as of mid‑2025, this feature remains largely unrealized.[6]

Market Performance

[edit]

ELON reached its all-time low in April 2021, shortly after launch, and its all-time high of approximately $0.00003263 in July 2021. Trading volumes have remained active across multiple centralized and decentralized exchanges.[7]

Tokenomics

[edit]

Total Supply: 1 quadrillion ELON

Circulating Supply: Approximately 550 trillion ELON (55% of total).

Allocation:

  • 50% locked in liquidity pools
  • 50% sent to Vitalik Buterin for burn/distribution.[8]

Technology

[edit]

Dogelon Mars is primarily an ERC‑20 token on Ethereum and Polygon, benefiting from their security and decentralized infrastructure. It leverages Ethereum’s proof‑of‑stake network and Polygon’s Layer‑2 scalability.[9]

Community and Governance

[edit]
  • As of June 2025, the token maintains a vibrant online community across X (~480k+ followers), Telegram (~41k), Reddit, and other platforms.
  • No formal whitepaper; instead, storytelling via comics provides a creative roadmap.
  • Proposed xELON staking mechanism for future governance is still pending.[10]

Exchanges and Availability

[edit]

Dogelon Mars is tradable on numerous platforms, including centralized exchanges like OKX, KuCoin, Crypto.com, Gate.io, MEXC, LBank, and decentralized exchanges such as Uniswap. It enjoys significant trading volume in both CEX and DEX environments.[11]

Reception and Criticism

[edit]
  • Popularity: Gained traction due to its meme coin aesthetic, interplanetary theme, and philanthropic narrative.
  • Criticism: Its high supply inherently limits per-token value potential. As a meme coin, it lacks utility, formal governance, and technical advancement inherent to more traditional DeFi tokens.

Summary

[edit]

Dogelon Mars is a typical example of a 2021-era meme coin: high token supply, anonymous origin, community-centric branding, and thematic narrative appeal. While it lacks a rigorous technical roadmap, it has carved out a niche featuring interplanetary lore and occasional charitable use.
