Domasi is a community in Malawi to the northeast of Zomba. It is the location of the Institute of Education,[1] the Museum of Education,[2] Domasi College of Education[3] and a prison. In 2025 there were about 260 prisoners in the prison.[4]
The Domasi Institute of Management and Technology was founded in 2019. 2024 was the second year of completing students and they had over 200 graduates with a "good number" of women graduates. Their courses had included the management of Agribusiness, data, healtth, HR, Hotels and Hospitality. Other courses included Community Development and Social Work, nutrition, Food Security and Sustainable Development. At their graduation they were warned of the few jobs in government and they were encouraged to create rather that look for a job.[5]

In 1883 the ambitious missionary Alexander Hetherwick began his career in Africa and he opened a new mission here in 1884.[6] After he went on furlough at the same time as ex-missionary Elizabeth Chisholm in 1888, she would take opportunities to visit him here after their return. They married in 1893 and girls from Domasi walked the fifty miles to Blantyre to join in with their wedding, which they shared with two other couples.[7]
The Shallow Well Project funded by the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana in Urbana, Illinois, United States provided safe drinking water for the villages around Domasi in 2004. The project installed 68 wells, serving about 36,000 people,[8] but in 2025 the borehole water supplying the college had failed and the students were having to use river water.[9]
