Ambassadors FC Ohio is the men's soccer program of the Ohio-based youth soccer club, Ambassadors FC, and was founded in 2020 and began play during April 2021. The club is coached and operated by Robert (Director of Men's Football Operations) and Ryan Dean (Technical Director of Men's Football and First Team Head Coach) and employs a part-time, seasonal staff of media and broadcast personnel, as well as assistant coaches and operations interns.
History
[edit]Early Years (2021-2024)
[edit]AFC Ohio played their first official season in 2021 as a part of the Northern Ohio Soccer League (NOSL), where they were eventually crowned league champions after defeating Mansfield Liederkranz FC 2-1 in the playoff final. During 2022, the program expanded to support two men's teams, one playing in the NOSL, and another joining the Ohio Valley Premier League (OVPL). Also in 2022, the club switched to playing home matches at the newly finished turf soccer and lacrosse field (construction completed in August 2021) on the campus of Malone University in Canton, Ohio. During the 2022 season, AFC Ohio reached the NOSL playoff semi-final for the second of four consecutive years (2021-2024), before losing to eventual champions, Greater Columbus FC. In 2023 and 2024, Ambassadors FC Ohio expanded to a roster of nearly 60 players across two teams, made a fourth NOSL semi-final appearance, and maintained a competitive presence in the OVPL.
NPSL Era (2025-Present)
[edit]
In January of 2025, it was announced that Ambassadors FC Ohio would be added as an expansion franchise to the Great Lakes Conference of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of US soccer and the highest level men's football competition outside of the United States Soccer Federation's three professional tiers. The team began play in the NPSL on May 17, 2025 with an away win against conference opponents Syracuse FC 4-0. During the 2025 season, AFC Ohio's u23 team maintained a presence playing the OVPL as a competitive development team for their NPSL programs.
During the team's inaugural NPSL, Omar Najjar, former player at the University of Mount Union, served as the team's captain.
