Ani Khangishieva (born 22 December 1989), known professionally as Ani Han, is an Armenian-born designer based in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). She is the creative director of Enso Design Lab, a studio specializing in minimalist accessories, jewelry, and home objects. Her work is grounded in the principles of minimalism, the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, and mindful consumption. Han's approach is characterized by restrained form and a focus on subtle expressiveness.

Early life and education

[edit]

Han was born in Armenia and raised in a creatively engaged family. From an early age, she was drawn to form, line, and material — an interest in drawing became her way of understanding the world. Although naturally inclined toward art, she pursued a degree in crisis management for banking. Graduating with honors, she later acknowledged that this period solidified her conviction to follow a creative path. Alongside her academic training, she studied under private mentors, participated in European design residencies, and developed a personal design philosophy rooted in material sensitivity.[1]

Career

[edit]

In 2024, Ani Han formally assumed the role of creative director at Enso Design Lab, a Dubai-based design studio. Long before joining Enso, Han had spent over a decade engaged in independent research and creative work in the field of object and product design. Her personal design language is shaped by a blend of artistic discipline and philosophical inquiry. Her visual methodology emphasizes attentiveness to form, material presence, and the duration of perceptual experience. At Enso, she continues this trajectory, offering collections defined by refined simplicity and material clarity.[2] At Enso, Han articulates a visual vocabulary based on focused observation, tactile awareness, and an ethos of internal stillness. Her studio process is structured as a form of meditative assembly — from sketching to material selection, each object is shaped to preserve its conceptual clarity and internal rhythm.[3]

Design philosophy

[edit]

Han’s philosophy is rooted in the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi — an appreciation of imperfection, impermanence, and natural simplicity. The central symbol of her studio is the enso — a circle drawn in one fluid gesture, representing completeness and harmony.[4] As Han noted in interviews, for her, design is not just a practice of form-making but a mode of thought and communication. "Our pieces are not merely jewelry; they are philosophy rendered in material," she told Harper’s Bazaar.[5] Her work has been described in professional media as a rare integration of philosophical depth, tactile precision, and production discipline. Her approach has found resonance among designers and curators interested in the field of mindful design. Han continues to shape a language where form, material, and silence become vessels for presence and perception. Enso Design Lab practices a production model based on thoughtful material selection and an intentional technical process. Attention to sourcing and a commitment to sustainability are reflected in efforts to create objects built for durability, functionality, and visual coherence.[6]

Recognition and public engagement

[edit]

Ani Han has been regularly featured in regional and international publications focused on design, fashion, and entrepreneurship. In 2024, she was included in the "World’s Most Influential Women Entrepreneurs to Watch" list by World’s Leaders Magazine, recognizing her contributions to the evolving discourse on conscious design and creative leadership.[7] In 2025, Han participated in the Harrods Hive forum in Dubai, an international platform for professionals in luxury and sustainability. She spoke on the panel "Sustainability – The New Standard of Value," addressing how design contributes to the redefinition of cultural and economic value systems.[8]
