Ashlan married Caroline in 2022.[12]

[edit]

Chidester was a plaintiff in several U.S. federal and state civil rights actions. In 2016, he filed an employment discrimination suit against Sizmek, Inc., a digital advertising company later acquired by Amazon.[13] In 2018, he filed suit against Jive Communications, citing violations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.[14]

Literary work

[edit]

In 2025, Chidester published The Brash and Plum, a 76-page hybrid work combining poetry and speculative fiction. The book has been cataloged by the Library of Congress (LCCN 2025910513)[17] and is held in libraries internationally.[18]

It has received third-party critical commentary, including in Vocal.Media, where it was cited as an example of hybrid literary form:[19] and in a Substack essay by Emmalee Qubull discussing the “literature of reclusivity.”[20]

The poem “Slapping Krampus” from the collection was featured in a 2025 article by Cultural Daily among the year’s most notable holiday poems.[21] The book was also listed on Goodreads in a curated public list of “Experimental, Hybrid, and Genre-Defying Novels.”[22]
