The Beta Squad is a British YouTube group consisting of Internet personalities Chunkz, Niko Omilana, Aj Shabeel, Sharky and King Kenny. The group is known for producing challenge and pranks videos across their YouTube channels which have a combined total of over 10.6 million subscribers as of March 2025.[1][2][3][4][5]

History
[edit]2019-2020: Origins and initial popularity
[edit]Many of the groups members knew each other before the group was formed and had been producing content on their own YouTube channels.
After dropping out of college in 2016, Chunkz briefly worked at the British cinema chain Cineworld, where he met AJ Shabeel.
Sharky also met AJ in 2016 through a mutual friend. Sharky later met Niko on the social media site Amigo, and they started talking on Twitter. King Kenny was friends with Niko at the time.
In February 2019 they formed the Beta Squad and moved into a mansion in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire toogether. About a week later they uploaded their debut video as a group.[2][6]
In late 2023, Aj announced he would be leaving the Beta Squad. However this only lasted for one video.[7]
Beta Squad Charity Match
[edit]In June 2024 Beta Squad held the Beta Squad Charity Match, a football friendly match between Beta Squad and the streamer collective AMP (Any Means Possible), at Selhurst Park. Several other celebrities also played in the match, including former English footballer Daniel Sturridge and a masked player, believed by many online to be Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence.[8]
During the match, just before a penalty shootout, the game had to be called off after hundreds of fans entered the pitch.[9]
There were also plans for a rematch at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale in October, 2024. However for unexpected reasons, it was cancelled.[10]
2024-2025: Break and subsequent return
[edit]At the end of a June 2024 Beta Squad video titled "GUESS THE COMEDIAN FT DRUSKI" the group announced they would be taking a break from content creation. In the announcment King Kenny stated "We feel like the break is needed 'cause you know, we need to take a step back, to work out the way to improve the quality of the videos."[11]
In March 2025 in a trailer video uploaded to the Beta Squad YouTube channel, it was announced that the group would be returning to producing content.[12] On March 29 the group uploaded their first regular video following the break; a real life recreation of the show Squid Game.[13]
YouTube Channels
[edit]The group has three YouTube channels, Beta Squad, MoreBeta and Beta Squad Shorts, across which it publishes a variety of videos including challenges, pranks and guessing games.[3][4][5]
Controversies
[edit]Sikh Joke Incident
[edit]On February 12, 2022 the Beta Squad uploaded a video titled "We Pretended To Work At The Grocery Store (Fake Employee Prank)" in which the group pretend to be fake employees at a grocery store that was being managed by a 19-year old Sikh man, who introduced himself as Milan. During the prank, Sharky is instructed by his friends to approach Milan and say ‘I think it’s sikh that you are sick."
This caused signifigant backlash from the Sikh community. The group quickly responded to the backlash on Twitter, stating in a tweeted apology that "Religion shouldn’t be joked about and we apologize to anyone who was offended by our comments".[14][15]
Yung Filly Legal Issues
[edit]Rapper Yung Filly, who was a frequent Beta Squad collaborator and often collaborated with Beta Squad member Chunkz, was arrested while on tour in Australia in September 2024 after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a Perth hotel room.[16][17] He was charged with four counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count of impeding a person's normal breathing or circulation by applying pressure on or to their neck.[18] On June 13 2025, two new charges of sexual penetration without consent were filed against him. A trial is scheduled to start in July 2026.[19]
Additionally in March 2025, it was reported that Filly was involved in an ongoing separate sexual assault case of a British tourist in Magaluf, Spain. The incident was reported to have happened in the previous summer.[20]
In December 2024 in a seperate case Filly was charged with reckless driving and had his vehicle impounded by police after he was caught driving 158km/h in a 100km/h zone the previous month. He was fined $1000 and given a six-month driving ban after pleading guilty.[21][22]
