Brian C. Wilson is a physicist and professor specializing in medical biophysics and biophotonics. He is a Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto[1] and a Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, part of the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada.[2]
Career
[edit]Prof. Wilson has conducted research in the field of biomedical optics since the early 1980s. His work has focused on the clinical application of photodynamic therapy (PDT) for treating various cancers, including those of the brain, prostate, and gastrointestinal tract.[2] He has contributed to the development of optical techniques for measuring light distribution in tissues, as well as to dosimetry methods in PDT.[1]
In addition to PDT, Wilson’s research includes the use of fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy for early cancer detection and the application of light-based technologies for surgical guidance. His work has also expanded to include the use of nanoparticles in cancer imaging and treatment.[3]
Wilson has collaborated extensively with clinical and industrial partners to translate biophotonics technologies into medical practice. He has co-founded spin-off companies in optical imaging and has held visiting research positions at institutions in the United States, Brazil, China, and Australia.[1]
