David Anderson, better known as Captain Anderson is a character from Mass Effect, a franchise of military science fiction action role-playing video games developed by Bioware and published by Electronic Arts. Captain Anderson made his first appearance as the protagonist of Mass Effect: Revelation, a tie-in novel set before the events of Mass Effect. Anderson also appears in the aforementioned videogame, where he plays a supporting role as the original captain of the SSV Normandy SR1, a high-tech spacecraft. He later returns in Mass Effect 2, where he will either be the first ever human member of the citadel council, the governing body and authority of Citadel Space; or an advisor to him. In his final appearance in Mass Effect 3, he performs the function of the Earth's resistance leader in the ongoing reaper invasion.
According to The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3 ebook, Captain Anderson was originally envisioned as "the hero of Mass Effect".[1] He was voiced by American actor Keith David in the Mass Effect trilogy and Patrick Seitz in 2012's animated movie Mass Effect: Paragon Lost.

[edit]After the events of Mass Effect: Revelation, Anderson remains with the Alliance military, earning a high reputation in multiple Alliance vessels. Eventually, the Alliance names him captain of his own selected crew aboard the SSV Normandy SR1, a turian-human spaceship. He personally selects Commander Shepard as the ship's Lieutenant Commander.
During the beginning of Mass Effect, Anderson leads the Normandy on a mission to Eden Prime, a human colony that had been attacked by geth forces. Anderson sends in Commander Shepard, Kaidan Alenko and Richard L. Jenkins together with turian spectre Nihlus Kryik to the colony. Once this mission is completed, the Citadel Council decides to give Shepard spectre status, which in turn forces Anderson to step down from his leadership position at the Normandy, leaving Shepard in charge of the spacecraft.[2][3]
