Chanakya University is a liberal arts and sciences university

Chanakya University is an Indian private not-for-profit, for-purpose collective philanthropy university located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The university provides liberal arts STEAM (sciences, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) based education aligned to the NEP 2020. Chanakya University has 6 schools, 6 Centers of Excellence, and 2 Chair Professorships. The university is named after Chanakya, the ancient Indian political strategist and philosopher.

History

The university was established under the Chanakya University Act 2021[1] and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), approved by the AICTE and by the Bar Council of India. Founded in 2022,[2] Chanakya University has a 116-acres campus near Bengaluru International Airport.[citation needed] Its philanthropic contributors include Sitaram Jindal, Kris Gopalakrishnan, CK Birla Group, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, T.V. Mohandas Pai, Ranjan Pai, Brigade Group, Havells, JSW Group, Padma Shri awardee Prashanth Prakash,[3] among others.[4]

Chanakya University has signed memoranda of understanding with Japan's Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, University of Texas at Arlington, NIT Calicut, and IIM-Nagpur.[citation needed]

Leadership

Key figures from academia and industry came together to contributed for the establishment of Chanakya University. Members of its International Advisory Council are Prof Manjul Bhargava,[5] Fields Medal recipient; Dr Sitaram Jindal, Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Padma Shri musician Rickey Kej, three-time Grammy awardee; and Sajjan Jindal, among others.[citation needed]

Schools and academics

Chanakya University provides higher education in liberal arts and sciences. Programs include under graduation, postgraduation, Ph.D., and fellowships.

Undergraduate programs

Undergraduate programs offered at Chanakya University include political science, international relations, economics, psychology, commerce, business administration, chemistry, biology, data science, engineering, law, biosciences, and biotechnology.[6]

Postgraduate programs

Chanakya University offers postgraduate programs in economics, psychology, social work, data sciences, public policy, biotechnology, computer application, and business administration.[7]

Doctoral and diploma courses

The university offers postgraduate diploma courses in bioinformatics, synthetic biology, and social sciences.[8][9]

Centres of Excellence

Chanakya University has six centres of excellence. The Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems, aligned with NEP 2020, is a unit for multidisciplinary research in the domain of Indian Knowledge Systems.[10][11]

Centre for Sustainability, supported by Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath and Prashanth Prakash, venture capitalist and founder of Accel, the centre is dedicated to finding sustainable solutions.[12]

Chair Professorships

The university has two Chair Professorships, namely the Dr Ramdas Pai Chair on Education,[13][14] and the Subhas Chandra Bose Chair on International Relations. In July 2024, the Chair on International Relations held an international roundtable conference on 'India's Engagement with the World'.[15]
