Daastaans is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language, film written by PadmaShri Rabindra Narain Singh & Directed by Sayak Dev Mukherjee and produced by Dr. R N Singh & Dr. Ginni Jakhanwal, under production banner SWAR SAMRAJYA STUDIIOS. It marks the first ever Hindi feature film of Bihar which as been completely shot, produced & released in Bihar on 13th June 2025.

The film features an ensemble cast of Bihar's Hindi Film Industry including Madhusudan (Kumar Maddy), Rohit Kumar Singh, Srijan Keshav Singh, Ravi Mishra, Prawin Sappu, Jaya Agarwal, Manoj Pandey, Rimpa Mazumdar, Niraj Arya, Suraj Roy, Sachin Devta and Devdas Chatterjee. A murder mystery art, the film follows multiple sagas of untold emotions, hidden truths, and unforgettable journeys

DAASTAANS – Four stories. Four truths. One unforgettable journey. What happens when power clashes with morality? When love turns into suffering? When betrayal shatters a family? And when science becomes a nightmare? A wealthy elite, blinded by arrogance, crushes the dreams of the less fortunate—but can karma be escaped forever? A mother’s unconditional love is challenged by deception, forcing her into exile. As loneliness tightens its grip, will her cries be heard, or will silence consume her? A power-hungry son, playing ruthless political games, casts his father aside—only to discover a shocking truth hidden within the walls of an old-age home. Is it justice, or a cruel twist of fate? And finally, deep in a forsaken village, a brilliant scientist’s experiment takes a dark turn. One by one, villagers disappear. The air reeks of fear. Inspector Vardhan and his team arrive—but will they uncover the truth, or become the next victims of this eerie mystery?

The Story Combines the personal stories of Srikant (a social worker), Dr. Jeevan Arora (Scientist & Forensic Expert), Dr. Avasthi & The link between all of them Inspector Abhinav Vardhan (Friend of Srikant & Student of Dr. Jeevan Arora). Dr. Avasthi revealed about the secret of the scratch in his expensive car which enlightened a new change in his Behavior towards the weak. Srikant who solves everyone's problem as a social worker, is frustrated with her own house disputes by her wife to his mother. Dr. Jeevan Arora is living the life in darkness as his elder son was declared dead as his body was missing from past two years & his younger son plays political in house games as situation to make him left the house to old age home. Story now comes up at a village where people are getting missing day by day and Srikant got to know about this case. He confronted the case to his Friend Inspector Vardhan and Vardhan teams up with his Officers Nirbhay (Encounter Specialist) & Ranjan Tiwari (SI), later on SI Hemraj Joins Them. Team found the murder games are played by Dr. Rohan Arora, Dr. Jeevan's Arora's son who was declared dead.

Production

The film was announced on 15th December 2024 by Director Sayak Dev Mukherjee

The cast was confirmed in early JAN 2025.

Filming began in Jan 2025 and wrapped up in May 2025. "The cast filmed a jungle for 4 days, at Aurangabad.

Soundtrack

The film's soundtrack is composed by Niranjan Sagar while the background score is composed by Bhaskar Roy & Sfx by Akash Karmakar.

The first title song "Daastaans Theme Song" was released on 11 March 2025 sung by Maddy. The second single titled "Maa Tere Bin Sab Soona Soona Laage" was released on 21st May 2025 sung by Sayak Dev Mukherjee.

Release

Earlier set to release on March 2024, the film was postponed and was later released on 13 June 2025. This Film has been premiered at Cinema Cafe, Patna in Presence of Smt. Harjot Kaur Bamhrah (Honorable Additional Chief Secretary, Dept. Of Forest, Environment & Climate Change Govt. Of Bihar), Padmashri Dr. R N Singh & Dr. Ginni Jakhanwal.

Controversy

Glorification of Encounter

The film faced criticism for its alleged Glorification of Encounter. Addressing the accusations, Rohit Kumar Singh, defended the film, claiming it was "driven by creativity & demand of script as a fiction, no use of real place or person appearing" and stated that those labeling the film as Glorification of Encounter deliberately viewing it through a specific lens.
