Daniel Boud is an Australian photographer based in Sydney, known for his portraiture and work across the performing arts, editorial, and commercial sectors.

Career

Boud began his photography career in the early 2000s, gaining attention through his personal blog, Boudist (now archived).[1] In 2007, he was appointed Chief Photographer for Time Out Sydney, a role he held until 2022.[2]

He has since worked with organisations such as the Sydney Opera House,[3] Bangarra Dance Theatre,[4] The Australian Ballet,[5] and the Sydney Theatre Company.

Portraiture and Editorial Work

Boud is recognised for his portraiture of figures in arts, music, and entertainment. Subjects have included Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), Peter Garrett, Flume, and Nick Kyrgios.[6]

His photographs have appeared in publications such as Rolling Stone,[7] Q Magazine,[8] and The Sunday Times Magazine.[9]

Commercial and Campaign Work

Boud has developed advertising imagery for brands including Samsung, Lynx, Foxtel, Airbnb, and Acer. His campaign work includes the 2024 “Our Future” series for Sydney Mardi Gras.[10]

He has also produced key art for theatrical and screen productions, including the film Firestarter and ABC TV programming.[11]

Exhibitions and Recognition

In 2011, Boud was a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery.[12] His work was also acquired by the State Library of New South Wales.[13]

Boud has been included in several exhibitions, including:

  • Dancer – National Portrait Gallery touring exhibition, 2025[15]
