From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dmytro Gordon (Ukrainian: Дмитро Гордон; born 1995) is a Ukrainian composer, music producer, arranger, and orchestrator whose concert and media music has been performed by major ensembles and featured in both Ukrainian and international productions.

Early life and education

[edit]

Gordon was born in Kyiv in 1995. He began private piano lessons at age six, and at 14 wrote over one hundred solo-piano works and self-released three albums of original music.[1] At 15, he made his public debut with a composition on the Ukrainian television program Shuster Live.[1] At 16, Gordon became one of the youngest students to be enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, earning a dual degree in classical composition and film scoring, graduating with honors.[2]

Career

[edit]

After graduating, Gordon relocated to Los Angeles and joined the studio of Grammy-winning producer Walter Afanasieff in 2016.[1] He contributed to Barbara Streisand’s album Walls (2018) – which earned a Grammy nomination – and arranged tracks for Jeremy Renner’s album Medicine (2019).[3]

In May 2019, Gordon premiered his neoclassical work Waltzing with Life in Los Angeles after securing funding via the Younk crowdfunding platform.[4] In 2021, he was unanimously elected to the Union of Composers of Ukraine, upon recommendation by Igor Poklad and Yevhen Stankovych.[5]

Gordon is also the author of two scholarly articles on the works of Ukrainian composer Ivan Karabits, published in peer-reviewed journals – Musicology and Music-Art-and-Culture.[6][7]

Gordon’s neoclassical compositions have been profiled in regional press as exemplary of a new Ukrainian “neo-classical” movement, [19] and his acceptance into Ukraine’s official composers’ union underscores his standing among peers.[3]
