Duxiana is a Swedish manufacturer of beds and furniture founded in 1926 by Efraim Ljung. The company is known for developing continuous coil spring mattress technology and its collaborations with designers, hotels, and institutions. DUXIANA operates globally, with flagship stores in Stockholm, London, and New York.[1]
DUXIANA is frequently recognised in international publications for its combination of Scandinavian design and sustainability principles.[2][3]
History
[edit]DUXIANA traces its origins to 1924, when Swedish entrepreneur Efraim Ljung visited a hotel in Chicago and discovered a bed with flexible steel springs. Inspired by the design, he developed the first DUX Bed in 1926, using a continuous coil spring system crafted from Swedish steel.[4] In 1953, Swedish furniture designer Folke Ohlsson introduced the DUX brand to the United States through Dux Incorporated, expanding its presence internationally.[5] The DUXIANA retail concept was formally introduced in 1987, with dedicated stores focusing exclusively on its bedding and furniture collections.[6]
Products and Design
[edit]DUXIANA designs beds, mattresses, and furniture, integrating ergonomic features and modular components to extend product lifespan. The company's sleep systems focus on customisation and spinal support.[7]
Collaborations and Industry Recognition
[edit]DUXIANA has partnered with interior designers, hotels, and institutions to develop custom sleep solutions. The brand has supplied beds to luxury hotels, including:
- The Langham, New York
- Grand Hôtel, Stockholm
In 2022, DUXIANA was named a Brand Official by Forbes Travel Guide, recognising its role in the hospitality industry.[8]
Sustainability and Innovation
[edit]DUXIANA integrates sustainable practices in its production, including:
- Component-based design and natural materials – Beds are designed with replaceable and upgradable parts to extend lifespan.[9]
