Elam Jay is a Moroccan-Swiss self-made singer-songwriter and producer known for his contributions to the fusion of pop, R&B, and North African music. His career spans multiple decades.
Early Life and Background
[edit]Elam Jay (born October 31, 1974) was born in Morocco and later moved to Switzerland. His multicultural background influenced his music style, blending Western and North African elements. He initially pursued a career in entertainment in Europe before expanding his reach to the global music scene.
Music Career
[edit]Breakthrough and Early Success
[edit]- 2004 - "Morena" used for Coca-Cola campaign in a collaboration with the artist, where Elam Jay became the brand's spokesman. The track is a fusion of Oriental, Latin, and Pop music.[1][2][3]
- 2004 - "Maghribya 2010" the official anthem song for Morocco's application to host the FIFA World Cup 2010, singing featuring Mohamed Derham from Jil Jilala band, and Mirela Jay, his wife.[4]
- 2005 - "Ah ya lil" released in the Middle East with the label Alam El Phan[1][2]
- 2007 - "Gnawitone" the artist collaborated with Inwi, who incorporated the song in their launching marketing campaign.[2][5]
- 2014 - "Sunshine" a remake of Bill Withers's Ain't No Sunshine[2][6]
- 2015 - "Hayganini" featuring Mohamed Rifi, winner of the 2013 edition of the X Factor Arabia.[4][7][8]
- 2015 - "Aoulailah" featuring the regretted Rajae Belmlih, song that has been recorded few months before her passing.[6][9][8]
- 2016 - "Angelina" featuring his wife Mirela Jay.[10][4][11]
"Heroina" and Return to Music
[edit]After a period of artistic hiatus, Elam Jay returned to the music scene in 2022 with "Heroina", a song that signified his renewed engagement with contemporary musical trends. The single received coverage in various Moroccan media outlets highlighting the fusion of African rhythms with international pop influences.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] In the same time Elam launched the parodie "Rwina" and the content has become a trend on the TikTok platform, with over 7,000 videos shared and over 75 million views.[21]
"Moroccan Superstars"
[edit]The artist released "Moroccan superstars" in 2022 as a tribute for the Moroccan national football team, that participated at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar and finished in fourth place.
"Hangover", Elam Jay's first song with Amapiano rhytms
[edit]In 2023 Elam Jay launched "Hangover" featuring D Brown & Bonge JR, the first collaboration with African artists that Elam has undertaken for his upcoming Africain-inspired album.[22][23][24][25][26][27][28]
Entrepreneurial Ventures
[edit]In addition to his music career, Elam Jay is the founder of Jay Vibe Records, a music label based in Miami and Marrakech Media Village[29], music/ video studios, home to Rise The Nation a Moroccan music label.[30][31][17][24][25][22][26]
Personal life
[edit]Elam Jay is married to Mirela Jay (2000 - present). She is featuring as a singer in few of his songs : "Morena", "Maghribya 2010", "Angelina". They have together two daughters, Ameerah Jay (born 2005) who is also a singer[32][33][34]and Nawrah Jay (born 2011)
