Exotec [eɡ.zo.tɛk] (formerly Exotec Solutions) is a French startup company founded in 2015 and headquartered in Croix, Hauts-de-France. The company develops robotics and software-based systems to optimize order picking and logistics processes for sectors such as wholesale, industry, and e-commerce.
History
[edit]Exotec was founded in June 2015[1] by Renaud Heitz and Romain Moulin[2], both former employees of BA Systèmes[3]. That same year, the company raised €340,000 from business angels[2].
Exotec developed an automated order-picking system consisting of a fleet of Skypod robots. These robots are equipped with rotating scanners for autonomous navigation. Using embedded software and a server named Fleet Control, the robots work in coordinated groups[3]. The system primarily targets e-commerce in sectors such as culture, fashion, food, and retail, enabling store replenishment without on-site inventory. It reduces employee walking time and increases picking efficiency[2].
In December 2016, Exotec announced a second funding round of €3.3 million[2].
One of the first customers was Cdiscount, which implemented the Skypod system in Bordeaux in 2017[4]. For this project, Exotec and Cdiscount received the "David with Goliath" award in 2018[5].
In June 2018, Exotec raised €15 million[6] and moved production to Croix[7].
By 2019, Exotec had formed partnerships with AHS and Uniqlo[8][9].
In 2020, the company raised $90 million[10][11] and was included in the Next40 index in 2021[12]. In January 2022, following a $335 million funding round, Exotec became France’s 25th unicorn[13].
