Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, BHU RGSC
The Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (FVAS) is a constituent faculty under the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus (RGSC) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), located in Barkachha, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India. It offers undergraduate education in veterinary science and aims to promote livestock health and rural development.
History
The faculty was established as part of BHU’s strategic initiative to expand veterinary and agricultural education in rural eastern Uttar Pradesh. Veterinary education at RGSC began in the 2010s, following approval by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) to offer the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc & A.H.) program.
Academics
The FVAS offers:
Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc & A.H.) – a five-and-a-half-year professional degree, including a one-year compulsory rotating internship.
The curriculum follows the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education regulations prescribed by the VCI and covers veterinary anatomy, pathology, microbiology, public health, medicine, surgery, and animal husbandry practices.

Admissions
Admission to the B.V.Sc & A.H. program is based on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) (UG), in accordance with VCI mandates. Candidates must fulfill both BHU and VCI eligibility requirements.
Research and Extension
The faculty engages in research related to animal nutrition, disease control, reproduction, and rural veterinary practices. Extension services include vaccination programs, infertility camps, and awareness drives in the surrounding rural areas.
