Biography
[edit]Born in Rio de Janeiro on August 29, 1971, Iafa Britz began her career in an unusual way. After studying computer science and working in the financial sector, she entered the audiovisual industry by taking a course in video directing and production.[6] Her first step into the film world was as a production assistant at Rio Cine.[7]
In 1998, she co-founded Total Filmes alongside Walkíria Barbosa, Vilma Lustosa, and Marcos Didonet,[2] a company behind successful titles such as Avassaladoras and Sexo, Amor e Traição, both of which played important roles in the consolidation of contemporary Brazilian cinema.[8] Later, in 2009, she founded Migdal Filmes in Rio de Janeiro, where she produced works including Nosso Lar and the Minha Mãe É uma Peça franchise, starring Paulo Gustavo. The franchise grossed over R$100 million at the box office and became a landmark in Brazilian film history.[9]
Throughout her career, Britz has collaborated with prominent figures in Brazilian cinema and has also been involved in curating audiovisual projects.[10] She is the author of the book Film Business: o Negócio do Cinema,[11] which offers an overview of the audiovisual market. In 2010, she was nominated for the “Faz Diferença” award in the Cinema category by O Globo.[5]
Her recent filmography with Migdal Filmes[3] includes productions such as As Polacas, Carlinhos e Carlão, Linda de Morrer, La Situación, Amarração do Amor, Irmã Dulce, Casa Grande, Cássia Eller (documentary), and M8 – Quando a Morte Socorre a Vida, as well as TV series such as As Canalhas (GNT), 220 Volts (Multishow), and Matches (Warner Channel).
Britz also holds a degree in psychology from PUC-Rio.
