Ingi Þór Garðarsson (b. June 10, 1992), better known by his stage name Ingi Bauer, is an Icelandic musician, DJ, and co-founder of the YouTube channel Ice Cold.

Biography

[edit]

Ingi Bauer was born and raised in Hafnarfjörður. In his younger years, he attended Setberg School, where his main interests were airplanes and acting. Ingi later enrolled at Flensborg College, where he met his best friend. The two decided to start the YouTube channel Ice Cold. Ingi then began releasing music on SoundCloud, where he gained over 2 million plays before transitioning to the Icelandic music market.

Among his best-known tracks is the song “Upp Til Hópa,” which he released with rapper Herra Hnetusmjör. The song was nominated for Song of the Year at both the FM957 Listener Awards and the Icelandic Music Awards in 2019.[1] In recent years, he has released two studio albums and continues to release singles regularly. His album Bau Air was nominated for Album of the Year 2022 at the FM957 Listener Awards.[2]

Beginnings

[edit]

In 2011, Ingi Bauer founded the YouTube channel Ice Cold along with his friend Stefán Atli.[3] In the early years, they focused on making short films filled with humor and action. Their first short film, Eiturlyf ("Drugs"), was nominated for an award, and they later released a large number of short films. Around 2013, they decided to explore music by making Icelandic covers of popular foreign songs. A notable track from this period is “Bagg & Cod,” which became quite popular at the time.

Vlogging

[edit]

While driving to Ingi Bauer’s studio one day, Stefán picked up his phone and recorded the beginning of Ice Cold's first vlog. From there, the duo created over 70 vlogs. At the time, few Icelanders were vlogging, and they saw a gap in the market. Their vlogs showed everything from starting a business to hanging out with well-known actors and musicians.[4]

Streaming

[edit]

When the video game Fortnite was released, they began live streaming their gameplay. They welcomed notable guests such as Pétur Jóhann and Steindi Jr. As a result, they became the largest game streamers in Iceland for the local market.[5]

Ending

[edit]

In 2021, Ingi and Stefán decided to end the Ice Cold channel and focus on their individual careers.
