Jayanta Bose (born 28 June 1956) is an Indian harmonium player, composer, and poet based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Active in the field of Hindustani classical and semi-classical music, he has performed with various noted artists and contributed to Bengali musical compositions.
Career
[edit]Bose began his career as a harmonium accompanist in the 1970s, eventually gaining recognition for solo performances and compositions in Bengali and Hindustani music traditions. In addition to live concerts, his compositions have featured in musical events and recordings.[1]
He composed music for the Bengali film Bhagshesh (2018) and contributed lyrics to its soundtrack.[2] Bose was also involved in composing parts of the background music for Mira Nair’s film The Namesake.[3]
In 2016, he was honored at a musical event titled Acharya Axis, held at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata. The event featured performances by artists such as Indrani Sen, Raghab Chatterjee, and Subhamita Banerjee, who presented his compositions.[4]
In 2021, a YouTube series titled Acharya Parivar was launched by his daughter Maahirii Bose. The series features archived and unreleased songs composed by Bose.[5][6]

[edit]Some of Bose’s poetic compositions have been performed alongside adaptations of Rabindranath Tagore’s music.[7]
Personal life
[edit]Bose lives in Kolkata. His daughters Rema and Maahirii Bose are also involved in music.[7] Maahirii serves as a performer and producer for the Acharya Parivar series.[8]
