Jazzworx is a South African recording studio and audio production company based in Johannesburg. Since its establishment in the early 2000s, Jazzworx has played a significant role in the development of the South African music industry, collaborating with a diverse range of artists and contributing to numerous acclaimed and award-winning music projects.

Contributions to South African Music

Jazzworx has been instrumental in shaping the sound of contemporary South African music, working across genres such as amapiano, pop, hip-hop, house, kwaito, jazz, and gospel. The studio has provided recording, production, mixing, and mastering services for many influential artists, including Zee Nxumalo, Aymos, Samthing Soweto, Nasty C, Lira, AKA, HHP, Sho Majozi, Tresor, Skwatta Kamp, The Muffinz, Chiano Sky, ProVerb, Ross Jack, Malaika, and Mandoza.

Jazzworx has also contributed to projects involving Karen Zoid, Thandiswa Mazwai, Zamajobe Sithole, Jabu Hlongwane, and Nqubeko Mbatha. Many of these projects have gone on to win major awards or achieve significant commercial success.

TBose – The Ones (2025)

In 2025, Jazzworx co-produced The Ones with TBose, a weekly music-infused talk show broadcast on Mzansi Wethu (DStv 163). The show was fronted and produced by Thabo Mokwele, widely known as TBose, under his production company, T-Bose Productions[1].

DJ Lag & Thakzin – Indlu iYasha (2025)

In early 2025, South African electronic music pioneers DJ Lag and Thakzin collaborated on a live DJ set titled Indlu iYasha, recorded at Jazzworx Studios in Johannesburg[2]. This session marked a significant fusion of gqom and 3-step genres, showcasing the evolving landscape of South African electronic music.

AKA – Mass Country (2023)

Jazzworx was involved in the posthumous album *Mass Country* by rapper AKA, which achieved platinum status within four months of release, equivalent to 41 million local streams. By early 2024, it had surpassed 99 million streams globally, affirming its commercial and cultural impact.[3]

Nasty C & Cassper Nyovest – African Throne Tour (2023)

Jazzworx played a role in the production aspects of the African Throne Tour, a collaborative venture between Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest in 2023. The tour was documented in a Prime Video documentary, providing an intimate look at the artists' journey across the continent. Jazzworx's contribution to the tour's production underscores its influence in large-scale music events[4]

Lira – Feel Good & Soul in Mind (2008)

Lira's breakthrough album *Feel Good* (2006), produced at Jazzworx, achieved triple-platinum status in South Africa. Her follow-up album *Soul in Mind* (2008), also produced at Jazzworx, won four SAMAs and cemented her status as a leading Afro-soul artist.[5][circular reference]

HHP – YBA 2 NW (2005)

Jazzworx collaborated on *YBA 2 NW*, an influential Motswako album that won Best Rap Album at the 2006 SAMAs. The album helped establish HHP as a national icon in hip-hop and a pioneer of the Setswana-English rap genre.[6]

Skwatta Kamp – Mkhukhu Funkshen (2003)

Jazzworx contributed to *Mkhukhu Funkshen*, the first South African hip-hop album to achieve gold status, selling over 77,000 copies. The album played a key role in mainstreaming hip-hop in the country.[7][circular reference][8]

Mandoza – Nkalakatha (2000)

Jazzworx worked on *Nkalakatha*, which sold over 350,000 copies and won multiple SAMAs including Song of the Year. The album remains one of South Africa’s biggest kwaito records and a cultural milestone.[9][circular reference]
