John Steven Mattone was born in Trenton, New Jersey. He developed an interest in management and organizational behavior from a young age, which later became the focus of his academic and professional career.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree with high distinction in Management and Organizational Behavior in 1978.

Following his passion for understanding human behavior in organizational settings, Mattone pursued further education and earned a Master of Science degree with highest distinction in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, in 1980.

In his quest for academic excellence, Mattone began a Ph.D. program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. However, after a year of rigorous study, he decided to set on his professional journey and left the doctoral program to apply his knowledge in real-world scenarios.
