Joshua Ray Walker (born February 10th, 1991) is an American singer-songwriter, [1] Born in Dallas, Texas. Walker was exposed to multiple different genres of music due to his maternal grandfather, who lived in the duplex he grew up in along with his maternal grandmother and parents.[2] His music, although country in genre, has been described as different from mainstream country.[2] "Pop country and what Josh is doing are two different leagues," says Walker's producer. "His brevity and lyrics…there's real weight in the words, and every word matters."[2] Walker has gone on to say, “Whether it be an emotional response that they want to party, or it makes them want to cry, or it makes them want to call their dad, or it makes them happy…If you can write a song that paints a vivid picture in someone’s mind, I think that’s the goal.” [2]

His debut album, 2019's Wish You Were Here, contains personal subjects such as the passing of his grandfather ten years prior, as detailed in the title track[2], as well has the loss of his father in "Flash Paper".[3] Since then he has risen in fame. The title track from Walker's 2021 album See You Next Time, stayed in the Americana Top 40 charts for 26 weeks[2], and he has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, opening for Wheeler Walker Jr in 2022[4].

Walker was diagnosed with Stage 3B colon cancer in January of 2024. Since then it had spread to his lungs, and he was undergoing chemotherapy treatments along with multiple surgeries.[5] However as of October 2024 he has shared that he is now cancer free.[6]

His 2025 album, Tropicana, covers the music he created while confined to his home during his recovery from chemotherapy. [7] It's described as a "sun-soaked departure from a dark, dangerous chapter" which "trades honky-tonks for hammocks, offering a rallying cry of resilience wrapped in tropical twang".[7]
