Justin Sheriff was born and raised in the New Hampshire Seacoast region. He began his musical journey as a founding member of the Portsmouth-based band People Like You, where he played keyboards and served as the band's producer. Sheriff later attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 2016 with a dual major in Music Production & Engineering and Electronic Production & Design. During his time at Berklee, he began interning at Cybersound Recording Studios in Boston in 2012, which marked the beginning of his professional career in the recording industry.

Audio Engineering Career

[edit]

After earning his degree, Sheriff continued at Cybersound Studios and rose to become the studio's head audio engineer. Over his career, he has worked on numerous projects spanning music, film, and media. Sheriff has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including hip-hop legends like Flavor Flav, DMX, and Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels of Run-D.M.C., as well as pop and R&B acts such as Lauv, Elle King, Suki Waterhouse and Lucky Daye. He has also engineered recordings for notable actors and public figures, including Bryan Cranston, Chris Evans, James Cromwell, Yara Shahidi, and supermodel Gisele Bündchen.

Sheriff's studio credits span many high-profile projects. In 2017, he recorded rapper DMX for a featured collaboration with artist 24hrs.[2] He went on to record pop singer Lauv in 2019 for the album How I'm Feeling, and that same year recorded Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels of Run-D.M.C. In 2019, Sheriff also handled a commercial voice session with Gisele Bündchen for a Christian Dior campaign and recorded actress Yara Shahidi's narration for A Trick of Light, an Audible original by Stan Lee. His work continued with violinist Máiréad Nesbitt on Disney's Epcot nighttime show Harmonious in 2020,[3] and with singer Paravi[4] on a cover of "Suspicious Minds" featured in the 2022 Elvis biographical film (recorded in 2021). In 2022, Sheriff recorded singer Elle King for a song on the soundtrack of DreamWorks' animated film The Bad Guys. He also recorded the famed hype man and rapper Flavor Flav in 2023, among other projects. Beyond music recording, Sheriff has provided audio post-production for major commercial projects, including mixing and sound design for the introduction video of Billboard's Women in Music Awards in 2018, as well as contributions to voice recognition technology for Amazon's Alexa and audio workouts for the ASICS Runkeeper app.
