History

[edit]

KSI Global is an online gaming community created in 2003, originally created for the game Unreal Championship. KSI peaked in membership from 2007 to 2009 after the release of Halo 3, reaching the tens of thousands...[1]

During this time, the community also fielded competitive esports teams, participating in Major League Gaming (MLG) events such as MLG New York in 2006[2], MLG Dallas in 2006[3], WSVG Louiville, where they placed 4th[4], and MLG Meadowlands in 2007[5]

In 2009, then-member, KSI, the English influencer, professional boxer, and musician, registered on YouTube under his gamertag, KSI Olajide BT. Between 2010 and 2011, KSI Global underwent several leadership disputes, causing the community to fracture, leaving it with significantly less membership and relevance in the Halo community. Coinciding with the community's struggles in the early 2010s, KSI Olajide BT, the online personality, began gaining traction on YouTube.

Present-Day

[edit]

The community has continued to operate since its creation in 2003, but has been completely overshadowed by KSI, the influencer[6]. KSI has admitted to stealing the name of the KSI clan in a 2023 interview with Wired[7] saying "Knowledge, Strength, and Integrity. That is my name. I just stole it from a Halo clan. I used to play Halo 3 a lot...", however, he has never tried to promote or advertise the clan, possibly due to the negative stigma the clan had in the Halo scene.[8]

In August 2020, KSI filed as a LLC in the state of Florida. It was dissolved in February 2022[9]

According to its website, KSI today only contains around 3,100 active members within its Discord server.[10]
