Kurwa Mathia is a village and Gram Panchayat located in Chanpatia block of West Champaran district, in the Indian state of Bihar. It is approximately 8 km north of the district headquarters Bettiah and around 8 km from the block headquarters in Chanpatia.

Geography

Kurwa Mathia spans an area of 1,235 hectares. The village lies in the Terai region of north Bihar and is well connected by road and rail. The nearby Kumarbagh railway station lies on the Muzaffarpur–Gorakhpur rail route.

Administration

Kurwa Mathia functions as an independent gram panchayat under the Panchayati Raj system of Bihar. The panchayat comprises 16 wards and is governed by an elected body led by a Mukhiya (village head). The current Mukhiya is Ruby Tiwari. The panchayat office is located in Ward No. 6, Malkauli.

Education and Infrastructure

The panchayat oversees nine government and private schools, mainly at primary and middle levels. Basic amenities like electricity, piped drinking water, street lighting, and pakka (paved) roads are available in most parts of the village.

Status

Kurwa Mathia is considered one of the most developed gram panchayats in Bihar, due to its strong infrastructure, literacy rate, active local leadership, and regular implementation of government schemes. Under the leadership of Mukhiya Ruby Tiwari, the panchayat has achieved significant progress in rural development, sanitation, and education.

Transport

The village is connected to nearby towns such as Bettiah and Chanpatia by regular bus services and local transportation. The Kumarbagh railway station is located within the village and provides access to long-distance rail routes.

Languages

Hindi and Maithili are widely spoken in the region, with Hindi used officially in governance and education.
