Laure Guillou is a French marine biologist recognized for her work in microbial oceanography. Her research is focused on the diversity and ecological roles of marine protists,[1] especially concerning marine stramenopiles (MAST). Guillou has contributed to the identification and classification of several novel protist genera, including Symbiomonas. She was notably the first person to observe symbiomonas.[2]. Her studies on Micromonas and Ostreococcus have connected the dots between plant biology and molecular research. She has used techniques like dot blotting, biochemical analysis, molecular probes, and haptophyte studies explore the mysteries of picoplankton. In her work on Dinophyceae, she brought in themes from marine ecosystems, pyrosequencing, protist biology, and DNA sequencing. This painted a multi-faceted picture of life at the microscopic level in oceans[3]. Her research work is published in leading journals and she has also collaborated with international research institutes on global ocean biodiversity projects. Guillou’s work helps uncover the hidden complexities of microbial life in ocean ecosystems, prominently the roles of heterotrophic flagellates in the marine food web.[4] Currently, she is a research scientist at the CNRS since 2002 and leader of the DIPO team. Scientific interests
[edit]• Diversity and taxonomy of marine parasites.
• Intra and inter genetic variability and dynamics of blooming micro-algae and their parasites.
• Evolutionary processes(of novel prostists lineages)[5][1]
