From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lawn Doctor is the largest lawn care franchise in the United States [1] headquartered in Holmdel, New Jersey. Lawn Doctor has over 600 locations across the United States and is adding more each year. Each Lawn Doctor location is locally owned and operated by a franchisee.

History

Lawn Doctor started as a small lawn care business known as Auto Lawn. Around 1966 Tony Giordano ran a hardware store where homeowners could stop in and ask lawn care questions. Tony was more than happy to give them advice and eventually started offering lawn care workshops each Sunday morning. There was so much interest that there was standing room only in hardware store for the workshops. With the advice Tony would give homeowners would implement the recommendations, however both time and expense became and issue for many homeowners. In discussing the issue with his friend, Bob Magda who was an engineer, Tony and Bob decided to start a lawn care business to give the customers their time back and keep lawn care costs reasonable. Tony would bring the lawn care expertise and Bob would focus on creating equipment to make servicing the lawn affordable and efficient. Auto Lawn was born. As they gained customers and their reputation began to grow Tony and Bob were called "The Lawn Doctors" by a local newspaper and customers. They thought the name was so good they officially changed the company name to Lawn Doctor.[2]

In 1967 both Giordano and Magda saw the opportunity to franchise their lawn care system and proprietary equipment. Over the next several years Tony focused on running and managing the business while Bob focused on building the equipment launching new iterations to improve efficiency.

Tony Giordano passed away suddenly in 1983 and Russell J. Frith was promoted to President and CEO of Lawn Doctor. Over the next several years Russell lead the growth of Lawn Doctor.

Within those 25 years, Russell managed Lawn Doctor as one of the most successful franchise companies in the United States. Entrepreneur Magazine Franchise 500 Hall of Fame[3]

In 2011 Scott Frith was promoted to President and CEO of Lawn Doctor. Scott began working at Lawn Doctor in 1987 in manufacturing after college he took roles in marketing and franchise development where he was named VP in 2005 before eventually becoming CEO.[4]
